Livcom International Liveable Communities Awards

Abbeyleix won a Silver Medal on 26th Nov 2012 at the Livcom awards in Al Ain City in the United Arab Emirates. Livcom was launched in 1997 and is endorsed by the United Nations Environment Programme. The Competition focuses on International Best Practice regarding the management of the local environment. The Abbeyleix delegation had to make a 35min presentation of the the town which was streamed live on the 21st November. The presentation was well received and and went throught to the final emerging in second place to Port Fairy, Victoria, Australia. The delegation networked with many other countries who share similiar objectives to continue to develope and share International Best Practices with the objective of improving the quality of life for our citizens through the creation “liveable community. It was a truly amazing and learning experience for all involved The officials of City of Al Ain were very gracious hosts.

Community and Voluntary Awards

Congratulations to Abbeyleix Tidy Town, Abbeyfest, and Abbeyleix Hockey Club all worthy winners at the recent Community and Voluntary Awards hosted by Laois Community Forum.


Heywood Community school Ballinakill will host David Coleman. David is a child psychologist and presenter of the new series on RTE “Bullyproof.” He will give a presentation on “Dealing with challenging adolescents” and it will take place on Thursday 6 December.
