A LARGE number of family and friends joined the 6th year students at their graduation at St Fergal’s which took place on Thursday, May 24 beginning with Mass celebrated by Fr Foley.
In his sermon he advised students to work hard to achieve their goals. He told them not to be afraid to travel and broaden their horizons but equally to remember those who loved them at home.
The choir sang during the Mass and also provided music, with the Trad. Group, to accompany a photo-montage of memories put together by the prefects marking events during their time at St Fergal’s.
This was followed by the presentation of awards kindly sponsored by Bank of Ireland. Ms Marie Devitt, Bank Manager, Rathdowney presented academic awards to Jenny McCormack and John Burke, and achievement awards to Julie Higgins and Brendan Keane.
The Sports Awards were presented to Darragh Fitzpatrick, Tadgh Dowling and Marguerite Fitzpatrick.
In her speech Mrs O’Neill advised students to be optimistic about their future and to expect to succeed.
Ms McCabe, Year Head, related humorous stories about “her” group before wishing them well, on behalf of all her colleagues, in their forthcoming exams. Julie Higgins, Senior Prefect responded on behalf of the Class of 2012, thanking all the teachers for their work, care and interest through the years.
