The Laois Community and Voluntary Awards recognise people and groups who define the community spirit, according to Laois Public Participation Network (PPN) Chairperson.

John Oxley highlighted the importance of local volunteers when he spoke to guests at the outset of the Gala event at the Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise.

“These awards are about you – the people and groups who give your time, your skills, and your hearts to your communities. You are the driving force behind the strong community spirit that defines Laois,” he said in his speech.

“Whether it’s supporting neighbours in need, organising local events, protecting our environment, or creating opportunities for inclusion and participation – your efforts make a real difference every single day.

“We are so proud to work together to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding voluntary work happening across the county,” he said.

The celebration was hosted by Laois PPN in collaboration with their long-term awards partner, Laois County Council.

Mr Oxley also thanked sponsors, People First Credit Union, for their support and commitment to community development.
He also thanked the judges, who represent PPNs from across Ireland who brought experience, insights, and support for the community and voluntary spirit. MORE BELOW TABLE OF NOMINEES.

“I want to thank everyone who took the time to nominate individuals and groups for these awards. Every nomination tells a story of kindness, commitment, and care – and together they paint a truly inspiring picture of Laois. Let’s celebrate.
“Let’s applaud the achievements of our nominees and winners, but also the collective spirit of community that shines so brightly across our county. On behalf of Laois PPN, thank you all for everything you do,” concluded Mr Oxley.
