At a recent meeting of Borris-In-Ossory Social Services Committee, votes of sympathy were passed with the families of the late Jack Flanagan, Tullacommon and the late Mrs Mollie Wall, Rossmore, also with Julie Whelan, Gortnalee on the death of her father, the late Arthur Whelan, Portlaoise.

Arrangements were made for the January bingo party and the date was set for the annual Senior Citizens Party. A progress report was given on the painting and improvements to St Canice’s Hall. Great credit is due to Fran Dowling and the FAS team on their work to date.


The annual parish Senior Citizens Party, organised by Borris-In-Ossory Social Services will be held on Sunday February 14 in the PE Hall at St Joseph’s National School, Borris-In-Ossory. The party will start at 12.30pm with lunch being served at 1 o’clock and this will be followed by music, song and dance. All Senior Citizens in the parish are invited to this party.


Social dancing for fun with Maureen Culleton will resume on Thursday afternoon January 21 and will continue each Thursday in St Canice’s Hall, Borris in Ossory from 2.30pm-4pm. All are welcome.


Any adults or non-exam year secondary school students who wish to take part in or help in any way with this year’s pantomime should come and put your name and mobile number down. No primary school pupils yet please. Looking forward to seeing new and auld faces in this year’s show! Dates of show will be announced later, but it will definitely be in March.


The First Communion Programme will take place in Borris-in-Ossory on Saturday 30th January at 7 p.m. Mass and in Knockaroo on Sunday 31st January at 9.45 a.m. Mass.


Weekday Mass will take place in Borris-in-Ossory at 9 a.m each morning. There will be Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Tuesday from 9.15am to 3pm. Eucharistic Service and Adoration in Knockaroo on Tuesday at 2.30 p.m. Eucharistic Serive and Adoration in Killasmeestia on Thursday at 10 a.m.


Set Dancing classes take place each Monday night in St Canice’s Hall, Borris in Ossory, starting at 8pm.


Sympathy is extended to Mrs Julie Whelan, Gortnalee, Donaghmore on the death of her father, the late Arthur Whelan, Kilminchy, Dublin Rd, Portlaoise, Laois who died on Sunday, January 3 in St Vincent's Hospital, Mountmellick.

Irish classes

Classes in spoken Irish for adults. These sessions will offer opportunities to complete beginners and also the more advanced speaker. There is no charge for these classes. There are two venues for the classes: Scoil Bhride Rathdowney on Mondays and Gaelscoil an tSli Dala, Ballaghmore, on Tuesdays. This term’s project will be run on Monday and Tuesday nights for seven weeks in both venues.
