The fashion extravaganza in aid of the parish 10 year debt campaign is on Friday May 27 in the sports complex. The evening begins at 6pm with over 30 craft and business stands to browse while enjoying a cheese and wine reception. At 8pm the models will take to the catwalk, displaying fashion from No 1 Boutique, Breda’s Gift Shop, Bridal Hall Ballybrittas, Colgan Sports, Eamonn Bracken Menswear, Fashion Boutique and Shaw’s, something to suit everyone. Also featuring inspirational hairstyles from local salons.
Door prize is a load of turf (sponsored). There will also be a raffle and an auction with a great array of items. All welcome along, tickets €10 from local shops
Cake in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital in the Methodist Church Hall on Saturday May 21 from 10am to noon.

Congratulations to Mountmellick Council on achieving their 16th Gradam Award on Saturday May 7. Mass was celebrated at Gardiner St Church Dublin. The recipient for the Council was Margaret Corcoran. In the May Pioneer magazine, you will find a book of tickets (€2 each or €10 per book) to sell, could counterfoils be returned to Sheila Kearney before June 25. The annual regional Mass will be celebrated in ICA Hall on Sunday June 19 at 7pm.
A busy year continues with practices for the Laois Fleadh on June 4 and 5 in Clonaslee. Tuesdays practice times: u12 Grupa Cheoil 7pm to 8pm and the Ceilí Band 8pm to 9pm. It is crucial that all musicians attend all practices. For the annual outing Laois is joining other Leinster Branches of Comhaltas for a 1916 musical fiesta in Mullingar on June 11 from 3pm to 6pm. Tunes for everyone and ones for Laois Comhaltas as each county will perform separately also. Names of tunes to be announced, and a group practice if possible. On Thursday May 19 at 8pm in the Heritage Hotel Portlaoise, Laois Heritage Society present Tom Nelligan, Historian of the Standing Stone.ie. Tom will discuss ‘The Use of 3D Reconstruction for Heritage and Archaeological Sites with a focus on Laois’. This is a major addition to preserving historical sites and mitigates the risk of damage or loss of precious cultural assets. It is very useful in relation to faded stony constructions. All are welcome.
