Blood Donors

Thanksto all who donated blood at the local clinic recently at a time of low blood stocks nationally. In total 101 donors attended - 12 new & 16 lapsed donors.


The Chiropodist will attend in Borris-in-Ossory on Thursday June 9. Appointments contact Lily Sheeran at 0505-41308


Next meeting of Borris-in-Ossory ICA Guild will take place on this Wednesday night June 1 in St. Canice’s Hall at 8pm. There will be a guest speaker at the meeting and it is hoped that all members will attend.


The annual outing, organised by Borris-in-Ossory Social Services Committee will take place on Wednesday July 13. The venue this year is Glasnevin Cemetery and Museum and the National Botanic Gardens, Dublin. There will be a break for morning coffee in Bewleys Hotel on the way and a stop for evening dinner in the Gandon Inn on the way home. Anyone wishing to travel should give their names and deposit as soon as possible to Sr. Regina or Nan O’Brien.

Cemetery Mass & blessing of graves in Kyle Cemetery will take place on Thursday, July 7 at 7.30pm.

Sympathy is extended ot the wife and family of the late Joe Costiagan wife Essie was formerly Ms Essie Delaney, Moneymore, Borris-in-Ossory. Joe, of Belgard Heights, Tallaght late of Clough, Ballacolla passed away on May 16. Remains reposed at his residence. Removal on Thursday morning May 19 to St Mark's Church, Springfield for Requiem Mass followed by burial afterwards in Newlands Cross Cemetery. Joe is deeply regretted by his loving wife Essie, sons, daughters, extended family, relatives, friends, neighbours.


Killadooley Parents Councils are holding a 5K Fun Run/Walk on Sunday June 12 at 12 noon. Registration will take place in Killadooley National School from 11am. Cost of registration is €10 for adults and children go free. There will be a discount for families. Prizes will be presented and refreshments will be served immediately afterwards


Thursday - Adoration in Convent Oratory from 8-10 pm. Friday is First Friday. No morning Mass. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 7 pm. Mass at 7.30pm. Benediction after Mass. Father Robinson will bring Holy Communion to the sick.


As part of the Festival of Faith taking place in Rathdowney there will be a Pre-Ordination Workshop for Choirs led by Fr Liam Lawton at 3.30 p.m. in Rathdowney Church for two hours on Saturday 18th June. All members of Borris in Ossory Parish Choirs are invited to attend. The cost of the afternoon is €10 (this includes a copy of the music and light supper at 5.30 p.m.) and it will be paid by the Parish. Booking for the Workshop is through Rathdowney Parish Office 0505/46282 or by Friday June 10.

Gardening Club

The next meeting of the Gardening Club takes place this Thursday, June 2 at which Mary Keenan will be our guest speaker. All non-members welcome.


Best of luck is wished to Marjorie Phelan, Ballaghmore, Borris in Ossory and her sister, who are going out to Belarus on a charitable mission. The girls are travelling with a group of volunteers from Gorey, Co. Wexford and will be helping out with the painting and decorating of a school in Minsk. Age Strategy

Launch of the Laois Age Friendly Strategy. The Laois Age Friendly Strategy will be launched on Tuesday, June 14 at 2.00pm in the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel, Abbeyleix. The Retired TD Mary O’Rourke and Cathaoirleach Catherine Fitzgerald will launch the Strategy and this will be followed by a Tea Dance and music will be by Paddy Bracken, Clara. Notification will be sent out to all Active Retirement Groups and ICA Groups etc but for anyone not affiliated to a group – all over 55s will be very welcome.
