The death occurred peacefully at St.Jame's Hospital Dublin on Friday, July 22 of Kathleen Shirley, Upper Main Street, Stradbally. Pre -deceased by her parents Richard and Mary, her brothers Gerard, John, and her sister Mary. Kathleen beloved sister to Paul, Helen and Anne. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sisters, brother, brothers-in-law, Eddie, Eamonn and Jack. Good friends Mary and Brendan, nieces, nephews, relatives, extended family and a large circle of her friends. Her remains were reposing at the residence of Paul and Mary, Cork Rd., Stradbally until removal to the Sacred Heart Church, Stradbally on Tuesday for Funeral Mass with burial afterwards in Oakvale Cemetery.


The draw for the Electric Picnic Residents Tickets will be held on Thursday, August 11 in St Mary's Hall commencing at 7.30pm - where 500 names will be picked out. Good luck to all.


The death occurred on Tuesday, July 19 of Annie Josephine Moore, Ballintlea, Stradbally, Co. Laois, peacefully in the exceptional care of the Matron and staff of Druimnin Nursing Home Stradbally. In her 97th year. Sadly missed by her nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, relatives, extended family neighbours and friends.

Her remains were reposing at her home in Ballintlea, Stradbally, until removal on Friday morning in St. Joseph's Church, Ballyadams followed by interment in Ballintubbert Cemetery.


Tickets are now on sale for the annual draw. €700 in prizes. Draw for prizes will take place in St. Joseph's Hall on Saturday, August 27 commencing at 7pm.


The death occurred on Thursday, July 21 of Sheila Delaney (nee Dunne), White Castle Lawns, Athy, Co. Kildare and formerly Grange, Stradbally. Peacefully in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late John. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family, daughters Brigid and Margaret, sons Sean and Liam, grandchildren Lauren, Dara, Finn, Milo, Elenor and William, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and her many friends.

Her remains were reposing at her home until removal on Sunday to St. Michael's Parish Church, Athy, and following Funeral Mass on Monday interment took place in Oakvale Cemetery, Stradbally.

A pilgrimage to Lough Derg is leaving Portlaoise Parish Centre on Monday 8th August at 9am and returning Wednesday 10th August at approx. 4pm. The first weekly meetings of Friends of Cuan Mhuire will take place at 7.30pm on Friday 5 August at the Sue Ryder Centre, Kilminchy village in Portlaoise. If you or someone you know is suffering with alcohol, narcotics or gambling addictions we are here to support you and to listen to you with compassion. This is an opportunity to meet and talk with people who understand your issues. If you are in recovery from addiction, struggling with addiction or need support due to someone else’s addiction we can offer a wide variety of help and support systems. Sister Consilio will give a talk at the first meeting along with her team of highly trained staff members. Everyone is welcome to come along. Light refreshments will be available on the night. The Devoy family and O Brien family from Shannon, Co Clare would like to thank everyone who contributed, supported and attended the fundraiser in Ramsbottom 's Bar on July 23rd. All proceeds gone to suicide prevention, and counselling services for families bereaved by suicide.

ARt exhibition

An exhibition of paintings, entitled Night Shade Sound Scape by Leitrim-based artist, Dorothee Koӧlle will open on Friday, July 29 at 2.30pm, in the Laois Arthouse, Stradbally. Enda Coyle-Greene, Poet and winner of the Patrick Kavanagh Award in 2006 will officially launch the exhibition.

The exhibition displays paintings, collages, assemblages, and an installation, different aspects of the creative process, which reflect the gallery space, the artist environment, and outer and inner experiences.
