Trojan work continues on Abbeyleix Bog clearing Rhododendron and doing other work.
Over recent Saturdays volunteers have been busy on the community run project. A host of volunteers ranging have joined the Abbeyleix Bog Project team on the amenity.
Among the groups involved are: the Laois Offaly Branch of the Irish Wildlife Trust, Groundwork, Conservation Volunteers Dublin, National Parks and Wildlife Services Leinster Division staff members, Abbeyleix Bog volunteers and Bord na Móna volunteers.
They have spent time clearing Rhododendron patches looking for, and removing any re-growth. This is an essential and ongoing part of the process of removing this invasive species from the area.
The volunteers are out next Saturday the 22nd doing more work. Meeting at Abbeyleix Manor Hotel carpark at 10am and working away until 2pm. We would be delighted to have your help if even for an hour. Wellies or good boots recommended, dress for the weather and we will supply tools and tea!
One more day of work is scheduled on November 19 next.
Any questions, send us an email to info@abbeyleixbog.ie or call Chris on 083 1106210.
The aim of the project is to restore Abbeyleix Bog so to make it available as a resource for the public to enjoy and look out for the wildlife that lives within it.
