Ballinakill GAA club needs to raise €5,000 to open up its new running / jogging track for use on winter evenings.

The club says the lighting towers and associated wiring has been completed around the running track. Extended opening hours have been approved by Laois County Counci.

"Subject to funding we are hoping to finish the works in order to illuminate the track between 4pm and 9pm each and every day. This will be free to the entire community and beyond, and, we are hoping to raise sufficient funds and complete the works before the end of  November. Approximately €5,000 is needed to finish the works," said an appeal.

The club encourages all members to use the 500 meter track for walks, jogs or runs. The club says it is safe alternative to using the roads especially outside the summer months.

"The Club requests that all users keep the facilities in good condition and report any hazards to any one of the Club’s Executive committee. Additionally, when you are finished we would encourage all users to close the gate on the way out," advises the club.

The club thanked Adrian Fitzpatrick and Patrick Dwyer for their work on the project.
