An atmospheric evening of festive songs is planned in Timahoe Community Hallthis Thursday December1, all in aid of the building fund at Timahoe NS.
The school is in line to build two new classrooms next year, and the fund will be used to complete the project, said principal Anne Bergin.
“We often do Christmas concerts but this year we came up with the idea of inviting choirs with a connection to the school, through our staff or pupils, so we have Monasterevin Gospel Choir, Timahoe Folk Choir, Cua from Portlaoise, and the soprano Shauna Rothwell,” she said.
The children are busily rehearsing she said.
“All 172 of our children will be performing on stage, it will really be a special night. All our staff are involved too, either with rehearsals or decorating the hall,” she said.
The principal had a big word of thanks for the soundman Sean Faherty.
“Without him volunteering his time, we would not be able to run this,”Ms Bergin said.
Tickets on sale at the school or at Delaney's Shop. Adults €10, students over 16 €6, and under 16's go free.
“We are hoping for a good turnout, and for lots of support,” the principal said.
