Discovering hidden treasures in the Slieve Blooms

The Lost Treasures is the name of a new book Sean Flanagan frome Tinnahinch in the heart of the Slieve Bloom Mountains.

The book is a history and folklore of a part of the Slieve Bloom. It contains a very interesting map showing old houses and landmarks in the area covering a couple of generations, which was drawn up in 1997, by the late Joe Egan, Coolnamoney.

The Schools Collection of 1937/38 written by the pupils of Tinnahinch School recorded the history of the district at the time. It also includes many topics like the destruction of churches, castles and a village in the area.

The legendary buried treasures at Tinnahinch Castle and The Robbers Den. The different stories about how 'The Stony Man' was built. How the hermit 'Grets' lived in a cell under the River Barrow. The major decline of the population, and the life and times of the people, all make interesting reading.

The book is now available in the local shops.
