Laois Friends of Simon raises €45,000 to tackle homelessness locally

Over the last 12 months, the Laois Friends of Simon yet again were the backbone behind Midlands Simon Community’s response to homelessness in Laois.

During that year, the Midlands Simon Community supported over 50 people to progress out of homelessness in Laois.

Laois Friends of Simon raised and donated €45,000 to Midlands Simon Community, raised through voluntary community-based events and fundraising.

Michael Martin is the Chairperson of Laois Friends of Simon.

“Everyone is moved by seeing anyone homeless or people, especially families, at risk of homelessness and even more so when it comes to your own county.

“We want to do something to help and that motivates the Laois Friends of Simon to fundraise and raise awareness of the existence of homelessness in Laois,” he said.

Mark Cooney is the Voluntary Chairman of the Board of Midlands Simon Community.

“Simon`s response to homelessness couldn’t take place in Laois without the support of Laois Friends of Simon. Put simply, people have left the insecurity of homelessness and now have the safety of their own home because of the incredible work of the Laois Friends and the support they get from local people and community groups,” he said.
