Rathdowney history in the works.

A history book on Rathdowney / Errill and surrounding areas is currently being compiled and researched and is expected to be launched early in 2020.

One of the chapters is entitled ‘Old Rathdowney Families’ in which around 50 families will be profiled.

The organisers sayd many of these families have been already written about in some of the Rathdowney Reviews of the past 34 years. Some of the information in these profiles may be now out of date or may require correction.

"If your family profile did not appear in the Rathdowney Review and you would like it included in the history book, please consult and we will do our best to facilitate you," say the organisers.

Another category is Old Rathdowney Businesses.

"We will take a current business premises and trace back all the previous owners and the businesses they conducted.

"Anybody wishing to help with this category will be most welcome.

"Finally, anybody with items they consider should be included in the Rathdowney History Book, don’t hesitate to contact the editor or any of the committee," say the organisers.

Anyone wishing to discuss changes or help out can contact the editor, Niall O’Doherty at 087 9212200 or write to him at Fairyhill, Rathdowney, Co. Laois.
