Protest march has been arranged and will take place on Sunday April 29, starting from the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel at 2pm and proceeding on to the hospital. It is hoped that this protest march will be well supported by all clubs, groups, associations and sporting organisations as well as individual members of the public.


Borris in Ossory Cycling Club are taking part in the Midlands Charity Cycle Tour on Saturday and Sunday May 19 and 20 in aid of Spina Bifida and Pieta House Suicide Awareness (Roscrea Branch). Sponsorship cards are currently being filled by all cyclists and all support will be gratefully received.


Borris in Ossory Youth Club, in association with Ossory Youth and Youth Work Ireland will take part in a 5km fun run/walk on Sunday April 22 at Kilkenny Castle. This event is a celebration of Youth Work Ireland’s 50 year anniversary and also being used as a fundraiser for Borris in Ossory Youth Club. All members have received sponsorship cards and all support would be much appreciated. A €30 Lifestyle voucher will be presented to the club member who raises the most money for club funds. A social will take place in Killasmeestia Community Centre on this Friday night April 20 with music by the Kelly family. Dancing will be from 9.30pm to 12.30am and supper will be served.


The death took place on Tuesday April 3 of the late Jim Fitzpatrick, Ballaghmore, Borris in Ossory. His remains reposed at his nephew Tony’s house in Ballaghmore until removal on Thursday afternoon April 5 to St Molua’s Church, Ballaghmore for funeral mass. Burial took place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. The late Jim hurled with Kyle in his youth and had a great love for Gaelic games. He was brother of the late Jack Fitzpatrick who was part of the Laois 1949 hurling team and who died less than a year ago. Jim is deeply regretted by his sister Marie, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.


The Fine Gael annual church gate collection will be taken up at all churches in the parish on next Saturday and Sunday April 21 and 22.

Raffle winners were Michael Murphy, Johnny Butler, Larry O’Mahony and Nuala Breslin. The Progressive 25 Drive will continue next Thursday night in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm.


The first of the 4 Month Draws in aid of Knockaroo Church Renovation Fund will take place on Friday night April 27. The remaining draws will take place on May 25, June 29 and July 27 in St Canice’s Parish Hall, Borris in Ossory. All promoters are asked to have their tickets and money returned on Wednesday night April 25.
