South Laois Tourism would like to thank all who supported their annual MacGillophadraig Way walk on Easter Sunday, also to the land owners, stewards, John Fitzpatrick Ballykealy, the Mullins family Ballykealy, and local businesses. Raffle winners were Hugh Sheppard, Paul Donnley, Sinead Mahony, Pat Phelan and Mary Donohoe. Money raised on day supports walk signs and maintenance.


Durrow/Cullahill Parish Anglers in conjunction with the Woodenbridge Paddlers will hold a family fun day on Sunday May 27 at the Old Bridge Durrow at 2pm. Durrow Vintage Club Ltd are holding their tenth annual vintage show and autojumble on Sunday April 22 at Cork Road Durrow. Pre 1970 vehicles. There will be a special display of pre 1930 cars and motor bikes. Admission is adults €5. Children U14 free. For further information contact Austin Ryan 0868860598 after 6pm. All proceeds go to local charities.


Durrow /Cullohill Anglers held a trout fishing competition for the Richard O’Rourke Memorial Trophy. The winner was Brendan Sheppard, 2nd Michael Walsh, 3rd David Walsh. Juvenile winner was Lee Coffey, 2nd Patrick O’Regan, 3rd Brendan Donohue.

On Sunday April 22 the club will hold a trout fishing competition for the Bill Kelly Memorial Cup. Entries taken at Lawlor’s Florists with weigh-in at 6pm at the Durrow Inn. Usual rules apply.


The Young Voice of Laois grand final will be held on this Saturday Aril 21 at 8pm. Doors open at 7pm. This competition is organized in association with the Laois School of Music. The winner will receive the Ronan Lawlor perpetual cup, voice training with the Laois School of music, cash prize and an opportunity to sing at Laois school of music’s tenth end of year concert and also at the all Ireland scarecrow festival in Durrow. This year there are 16 finalists and the standard is very high. Great night’s entertainment is assured.


Our Lady’s Meadow parents council wish to thank all those who supported the recent table quiz in Castle Arms Hotel. A profit of €600 was raised on the night for the benefit of the school. Well done to all who participated and again thanks to all who supported this fundraiser in any way.


The AGM of Cullahill ICA was held in the community centre recently. Votes of sympathy were passed with Bernadette Walsh on the death of her mother Nancy 0’Grady Killeigh and to Breda Burke on the death of her uncle Martin Fennelly and to the O’Neill family on the death of their mother Mary. RIP. Reports from federation were read and the following dates were announced. Bus to Knock Shrine on Tuesday July 10. Bus to Belfast on August 7/8 to see Titanic exhibition with overnight stay at An Grianan.


The Daffodil Day collection in the Cullahill area was €2,633. Thanks to all concerned who worked on the day and to all who so generously subscribed to this worthy cause.

The Development Forum have lined up some fundraising events over the next few weeks, for the rejuvenation of The Square. On Saturday April 21 the Forum presents the Young Voice of Laois. We are running our first ever golf classic in Rathdowney Golf Club on Friday June 1 and Saturday June 2. For any additional information contact Evelyn Clancy on 0879194428 or Paul Kelly 0868433279. The forum are also bringing Strictly Come Dancing to Durrow in the near future. Plans are also well on the way for our annual All Ireland Scarecrow Festival. It is hoped that this year it will be bigger and better. This years festival will run from Saturday July 28 to Monday August 6 this would be a great time to invite family and friends home to Durrow for such a fun event. People are already thinking up ideas for their scarecrows so we can guarantee a great week.
