The mobile unit of the Blood Transfusion Service will visit Durrow on Thursday June 28 in the Castle Arms Hotel Durrow from 5pm to 8.30pm. With over 3000 units of blood needed each week and with supplies on the low side during summer it is very important that we have a good clinic in Durrow. Anyone between the ages of 18 and 70 years can give blood and it only takes less than one hour from start to finish.


The Harps GAA club annual race night will take place this year in O’Connell’s Bar Cullohill on Saturday July 14. Please keep this date in your diary as it is one of our major fundraising event of the year. Race cards are available from committee members. Your support would be much appreciated.


Durrow/Cullohill parish anglers held a trout fishing competition for the Mick Monahan Memorial Cup. Despite the very high waters there were some lovely fish weigh-in. the winner was Pat Dunphy, 2nd Mick Walsh and 3rd Tommy Coffey. Next competition is on July 8 and it is a pike fishing competition for the Brendan Sheeran Memorial Cup.


With July 13 only three weeks away Durrow Development Forum are asking every resident of Durrow to get involved in getting the town into shape for the judging. Lots more work has to be done, window boxes, hanging baskets are to be displayed on every household, litter has to be cleared up, untidy areas to be tidied, unsightly areas to be cleaned, weeds on kerb to be cleaned. It will take a massive effort from everyone to get Durrow into shape for the judging. Don’t let it be said that you failed your town by not getting involved.


The annual day trip is due to take place on Saturday September 1. The trip will be to New Ross and will include a cruise on the River Slaney where lunch will be served and the a guided tour of the Dunbrody Famine Ship. The bus will leave at 10am and return after 6pm. Places on this trip are first come first served basis so booking early is essential. A deposit of €20 is required and this will guarantee your seat. On Saturday Jack’s Golf Society played in Gowran Park Golf Course. There was some excellent scoring despite the rain. The winner was Oisín Dunne, 41 points, 2nd Tom Bryan, 3rd Liam Ryan. Front 9 Kieran McEvoy. Back 9 Declan Phelan. Middle 6 Leo Dunne. The society is looking forward to its summer afternoon outing in Palmerstown House GC, Naas, (formally the PGA Course), on Thursday July 19. New members are always welcome.
