Pump Push

Pump Push

Abbeyleix Tidy Towns committee greatfully acknowledges the tremendous support they received from Abbeyleix Firemen with their recent fundraising event ‘A Pump Push’ on their behalf. The firemen were supported by The Abbeyleix High Nellie Club. The event was very well organised by a good humoured bunch of firemen they very well received in the estates they visited on the day. Our thanks to the residents of Thornberry, Rathmoyle, and Balladine who were very supportative on the day. Our thanks to The Horseshoe who provided refreshements to a very thirsty High Nellie group, it was much appreciated. The event raised €2,150

Awards Ceremony in Abbeyshrule

Three members of Abbeyleix Tidy Towns travelled to Abbeyshrule to pick up the three awards they received in the National Competition in 2012. The Abbeyshrule committee were very gracious hosts.

The event was a great opportunity for Abbeyleix to network with other winners and see that we all have similiar problems for example an ageing committee. Tidy Towns seems to have difficulty recruting young members nationally. Maybe 2013 will be the year young people will contribute to the Tidy Towns effort. Abbeyshrule is a beautiful village and well worth a visit.

Halloween Funday

Abbeyleix Hockey club held a very successful Fun day recently for all junior players and those interested in taking up hockey. Over 100 turned out and despite threatening rain and dark clouds early on in the day, the worst of the weather held off and a fantastic day was had by everyone involved. Big thanks all the parents, volunteers, u14s and u16s who helped out on the day and to the committee for all their work in organising the event. The day wouldn’t have been a success without all the volunteers. Special thanks to Laois Sports Partnership who co-funded the day.
