This year Daffodil day will take place on Friday March 28. All donations and sales of daffodils will be greatly appreciated.


The parents council of Ballyfin NS will be hosting a cake sale and Easter raffle in the school hall on March 23 after 10am mass. There will be tea/coffee, a cake sale, a draw for numerous prizes including a dinner for two at the prestigious Ballyfin House.


Ballyfin Community Alert is currently setting up a text alert system in conjunction with the Garda Siochána as a crime preventative measure in the area. We are holding our first registration session for anyone interested on Sunday March 23 after 10am mass in the community centre. Cost €20 per phone. Condolences to the family of the late Ann Peters of Patrick Street, Mountrath who died at the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise on March 9. Late Mary Tobin

Condolences to the family of the late Mary Tobin (née Gillman) of 20 Fr. O’Connor Cresent, Mountrath who died on March 8 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Wife of the late Jim, sadly missed by her son Seamus, daughters Mary, Breda, Cait, Jackie, Luchia and Geraldine, extended family relatives, and friends. Reposed at her home. Removal to St Fintan’s Church, Mountrath, for Funeral Mass with burial in St Fintan’s Cemetery.

Late Mary FOYLE

Condolences to the family of the late Mary Foyle of Patrick Street, Mountrath who died on March 6. Deeply regretted by her loving brother Matthew extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends. Reposed at Guilfoyle’s Funeral Home, Castletown. Removal to St. Fintan’s Church, Mountrath for Funeral Mass at 11.30am with burial immediately afterwards in St. Fintan’s Cemetery, Mountrath. Donations if desired, to Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin.


The knitting group continues to meet every Friday morning 10:30-12:30. New members always welcome


The sale of jam continues in Costcutters Mountrath and Phelan’s Shop Castletown. We would like to thank everyone for their support for this worthy cause by buying jam and donating fruit.


The outdoor gym in the local amenity park can be used by all ages. We would encourage all local clubs and groups to use this facility.
