Slieve Bloom Assoc
On Sunday July 26 the group will meet in Camross and drive to a starting point for the walk up to the top of the highest mountain in the Slieve Blooms. The school would like to wish their 6th class pupils the very best following their graduation. Leaving are Tara Poole, Shauna Foot, Ellen Kelly, Caitlin Dunne, Shane Young, Ciaran Murphy, Charlie Friel, Ciaran Cuddy, Ciara Poole, Kate Maher, Larissa Wisely and Abbie Greene. All at the school hope their next step into Secondary School goes well and wish them every success in the future.
As part of Ballyfin Trad Fest there will be dance workshops as follows, Wednesday July 29, traditional step dancing, this is an opportunity to learn one of the most famous dances Madam Bonaparte. Friday 31 its sean-nós and brush dancing. Both workshops take place in An Sean Chistin, Irey, Ballyfin from 11am-4pm. On Saturday its set dancing in the Community Centre Ballyfin from 11-4pm also. Rambling House Festival
An Sean Chistin, Irey, Ballyfin are holding a trad festival next week. Tuesday July 28 8pm, Open House for all to sing, dance, play music, recite a poem or tell a story or just sit back and enjoy the proceedings. Special guest All Ireland Champion accordionist Sam O’Doherty. Thursday July 30 8pm Laois Matters, a showcase of Laois All Ireland music and dance champions, and of new songs, poems, etc about Laois, all welcome. Sunday August 2 7pm Rambling House Session in the Community Centre,Ballyfin, visitors and locals to perform together their talents. Call Maureen Culleton 0876482038 for further details.
William Edmundson Homecoming
The William Edmundson Homecoming festival takes place from July 21 to 27, packed with tours, lectures, exhibitions and entertainment to mark the Rosenallis resident who brought Quakerism to Ireland and parts of America.
On Wednesday July 22 there is a guided heritage tour of Rosenallis from 2 to 5pm.
On Sunday July 26 at 1.30pm there will be a Commemoration Ceremony at the Friends’s burial ground, Rosenallis, where James Edmundson will plant an Oak tree in memory of his ancestor. It is followed by a barbecue in the community hall at 2.30pm.
