An evening of celebration took place in Scoil Chríost Ri, Portlaoise on Thursday, May 25.
The annual awards ceremony made its first appearance in an evening time slot, allowing for the parents of the students to share in the prize giving occasion.
It was a wonderful opportunity to reward the achievements and hard work of the girls across a whole spectrum of areas. The night saw awards in leadership, recognition of excellence in individual subject areas, sporting accolades, appreciation of extracurricular accomplishments and the second green flag attained by the school being given to those involved.
Guest speaker Tony Griffin, a former Clare hurling All-Star and now motivational speaker, presented the sports awards and left the girls with some genuinely inspiring words.
Head girl Aoife Kinsella (6th year) was awarded the overall Student of the Year, with Mary Mulhare (6th year international athlete) being given the overall Sportsperson of the year. Junior sportsperson of the Year went to 2nd year Anna Healy, captain of the U-14 team that won the Leinster Football Championship.
The Nano award which is given in recognition of community spirit and endeavour within the school went to Áine O’Neill (6th year), with TY student of the year going to Rachael Keane.
The official school website (www.scoilchriostriportlaoise.ie) was launched and students and parents are now able to easily access a vast range of resources and information on the web.
The night was a great success with a huge turnout by parents, students and teachers who enjoyed honouring the successes, achievements and consistent hard work of the pupils of Scoil Chríost Rí.
