We are appealing to traders to assist the work of Tidy Towns by emptying your overflowings bin regularly and keeping your premises litter free.

World Summer Games

Following the success of our atheletes at the World Games in 2003, Abbey Acorns Special Olympic club was established and recently four atheletes were selected to participate in the 2014 Special Olympics Ireland Games. Conor MacGearailt, Eimer Funlong and Alan O’Hanlon for equestrian, and Anne Foley for badminton. Congrats to all the athletes and their coaches, we are grateful for the support from Laois Sports Partnership and the disability officer Garreth Culliton.


Shanahoe Community Alert is holding a public meeting ong Monday, July 29 at 8.30 pm in Shanahoe Community Hall. People of Shanahoe and the greater community to the meeting for the proposed installation of street security cameras. There will be a security adviser at the meeting to give a presentation and to answer questions.

Outdoor Gym

Abbeyleix Park Development are delighted to announce the outdoor gym will be up and running at the weekend. Great credit to Mick Moran for overseeing the work and to all the contractors.

Carers Assoc

The Carers Association Laois would like to invite you to attend a Carers Support Group Meeting on Wednesday, July 31 11am – 12.30pm at The Heritage House, Abbeyleix, you will have the chance to have tea/coffee whilst meeting other Carers in the community, for more information please contact Alison Hackett on 086-7957086.

Centerary Book

Abbeyleix ICA are publishing a book, ‘100 years of Abbeyleix ICA’. We greatfully acknowledge the great support recieved from the Leinster Express for supplying archival material and Laois Patnership who will part fund the project. They were also overwhelmed by the people’s good will in sharing precious and rare photographs. The book will be launced in November. Great stories to be told.
