There will be a talk workshop on training on suicide prevention on Thursday, October 3 from 10am - 1pm in St Canice’s Hall Borris-in-Ossory. All are welcome.


A very successful coffee morning in aid of Laois Hospice Foundation was held in St Canice’s Hall Borris-in-Ossory on Friday morning September 20. Thanks is extended to all who came to support and also those who sent in donations. Thanks also to those who supported the coffee evening in Knockaroo Community Centre on Thursday evening September 19. To date over €1,000 has been received with donations still coming in.


Borris-in-Ossory Youth Club will hold the registration night for the coming year on Friday October 4 in the new school hall at 8.30pm sharp. Registration is open to old and new members. New members must be aged 12 or over. A parent or guardian must be in attendance. The registration fee is €10.


A threshing, vintage and air display will take place on Dermot Leahy’s farm, Greenroads, on Sunday October 6 at 1.30pm. A great family day is guaranteed. Your support would be greatly appreciated.


Over €400 was raised for the Laois Wheelchair Association at the church gate collection held at the three churches in Borris in Ossory parish recently. Thanks is extended to all who donated.


The new badminton season is now open. Borris in Ossory Badminton Club meets every Monday and Wednesday between 7.30 and 10.30 in the new school hall. New members welcome, but hurry as places are limited. Membership fee is €25.


Borris-in-Ossory ICA guild will hold its monthly meeting on this Wednesday night at 8pm. Members are reminded to return their completed members survey. There will be no armchair Pilates on this Wednesday because of the meeting but the class will resume on the following Wednesday October 9 at 8pm.


The hall in St Joseph’s National School, Borris in Ossory is now available for renting by various groups for the coming months. Any group/individuals who wish to avail of the hall must have their own insurance. The hall can be booked by ringing the school secretary on 0505 41331.


Thanks is extended to all those who contributed to the recent church gate collection in aid of Concern. A sum of €550 has been forwarded from the collection in Borris in Ossory. Thanks also to all the volunteers who took up the collection for this worthy cause.


Adoration of the blessed sacrament takes place each Tuesday in St Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory from 10am to 3pm. Adoration takes place in Killasmeestia Church on Thursdays from 9.30am to 3pm and in Knockaroo Church on Tuesdays between 2pm and 4pm. Anyone is welcome to come along and spend some time in the presence of the blessed sacrament.


The annual parish harvest thanksgiving mass will be celebrated in St Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory on Saturday evening October 5 at 7pm. Produce, flowers etc may be left into the sacristy no later than 3pm on Saturday.


All parents and guardians of First Communicants in the parish are invited to a talk given by Fr Jackie Robinson in St Canice’s Church on Tuesday October at 7.30pm.

PARISH donations

Borris in Ossory parishioners can be justly proud of their contributions to the envelope and plate collections and other fund raising efforts which have resulted in the three churches in the parish being totally renovated over the past number of years. All debts on all three churches are now completely paid off due to the generosity of all who contributed. The proceeds from the weekly collections are also used to cover the day to day outgoings in the parish such as insurance, heating oil, contributions to the diocese and many other overheads.


Social dancing with Maureen Culleton will take place on Thursday October 10 in St Canice’s Hall, Borris in Ossory from 2pm-5pm. All are welcome.


The results of last week’s Progressive 25 Drive in the O’Brien Hall were as follows 1st Bridget Gleeson and Mary Jo Ryan, 2nd Paddy Dunphy and Larry O’Mahony, Sean and Anna Bourke, 10th game Joe Dooley and Jacob Fairbrother, 15th game Kieran Fitzpatrick and Anne Russell, 20th game Paddy Sheeran and Jim Walsh. Sympathy was extended to the families of the late Tom Quigley, Timahoe and the late Ted Maher, Shinrone and a minute’s silence was observed. Both men were regular supporters of the weekly 25 Drive. Congratulations were extended to Murt Ryan, Borrisoleigh on his recent marriage. The happy couple are wished a long and happy life together. Next week’s Progressive 25 Drive in the O’Brien Hall will be the monthly €10 game and it is hoped to see all the card players there. The game will start at 9pm sharp.
