Kidney Assoc. Sale

The Laois Branch of the Irish Kidney Association is holding a fundraising sale on October 3,4,5 at Bull Lane Portlaoise. Many gardening and cookery books on sale together with quality soft toys and bric-a-brac. Home-baked cakes for sale on Friday 4. All proceeds to the IKA Laois to help patients who have end stage kidney disease.

Youth cafe

6th Class Club at the Portlaoise Youth Café every Thursday after school from 4 - 6pm, for all 10-12 year old primary school students. Fully supervised by volunteers trained in child protection and garda vetted. Youth Work Ireland says it is a safe and fun place for 10-12 year olds to mix socially with new friends of their own age. The café has board games, pool tables, ping pong, air hockey, PS3, Wii, X-Box and computers and also a tuck shop. Admission €1 and a parental consent form must be completed to join. Portlaoise Bridge

The club resumed on Monday, September 30. Sessions Mondays and Thursdays except bank holidays. Congrats to the out-going president, Rita Arrigan, for a fine season of bridge both winter and summer. She handed over the presidency to Anne Doolan with the vice president being Meera Saxena, hon. secretary Brenda Scully and hon. treasurer Sally Collins retained their positions for the coming season with Dave Downes PRO. The committee is: Rita Arrigan, Eileen Fingleton, Maire Fennin, Tom Handy, Margaret Nee and Kathleen Ramsbottom. The Sessions are held in the Sue Ryder Centre, Kilminchy commencing at 7.30pm sharp. New members welcome.

Parish Lotto

There was no winner of the Portlaoise Parish lotto jackpot when numbers were drawn on September 26. Numbers: 1,12,19,21. The 12 match 3 winners won €84 each. This week’s jackpot is €20,000. Congrats to John Turner who won the €20,000 jackpot when the numbers were drawn on September 19.

Mental health talks

GROW to host ‘Mental Wellbeing & Suicide Prevention’ 5 talks in Portlaoise entitled ‘Gatekeepers: Community Mental Health Promotion Programme’ from Tuesday, October 8 7.30 - 9.30pm and each Tuesday at the same time in Portlaoise Family Resource Centre, Harpur’s Lane, All talks are free and open to the general public. Hosted by GROW and the HSE.

Late Patrick Doyle

Condolences to the family of the late Patrick ‘Pad’ Doyle of 58 St Brigid’s Place, Portlaoise, who died on Tuesday, September 17. Beloved husband of Edith, and much loved father of Patrick (Jnr), Ger, Eugene,Tracey,and Alison he is also deeply regretted by his loving family by extended family relatives and friends. Reposing at his home with removal to SS Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise for requiem mass. Burial afterwards in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery.
