The annual church gate collection takes place on Saturday/Sunday October 5/6 at all parish masses which include Ballyfin, Mountrath and the Hollow. Support would be greatly appreciated. A lot of work has been done over the last three years also want to try and landscape the grotto and the entrance so as to encourage and make it welcoming for locals as well as visitors. All donations would be greatly received and can be given to any church member or Paddy Grehan who is the chairperson of this committee. Paddy can be contacted at any time on mobile 087 1626247. We would also like to thank all the volunteers who have helped us thus far and would also like to thank Fr Hennessy for his donation from the parish council of €1,000 and all other donations received over the last 3 years. The scouts troop are now reopen after the summer break. The venue for this is the Hall in The Kiln Lane Mountrath. New members are always welcome. Enquires can be made to Mai Dunne who is the troop leader.


All church readers are invited to a meeting on Wednesday, October 2 at 8pm. The meeting will take place in St Fintans Church Mountrath. If you are currently a reader on the daily or weekend rotas in St Fintans Church or The Hollow, or if you would like to train as a reader then please attend this meeting.


Week two of rehearsals took place last Sunday afternoon the dance coach put all 30 dancers through their paces. Some interesting pairings emerged from the rehearsal. We will say no more for now.

Late Finola Patricia D’Arcy

Condolences to the family of the late Finola Patricia Gash, Castletown, Mountrath, who died suddenly on September 19. Much loved daughter of Paddy and Peg, treasured sister of Catherine, Deirdre, Dympna, Michael, Maeve and Finbarr. Also dearly missed by her extended family, relatives, wonderful neighbours and many friends. Reposed at the family home with removal to St Edmund’s Church, Castletown, for requiem mass at 12 noon, followed by burial in St Fintan’s Cemetery Mountrath.
