Durrow/Cullohill Parish Anglers are asking all anglers to be especially careful when out fishing due to the extreme height of the waters and the very heavy swell on the rivers. The best advice would be is not to fish until the weather improves but if you go fishing let some person know where you are going fishing, bring a mobile phone and keep in contact by the phone to home.

The following opening hours introduced on January 2 2014 are now in effect at Durrow Library on Chapel Street: Monday: Closed, Tuesday: 1pm to 5.30pm; Wednesday 1.30pm to 5.30pm and 6pm to 7.30pm; Thursday: Closed; Friday: 10.30am to 12.30pm; Saturday: 11am to 1pm; Sunday: Closed. Laois County Council announced the new changes last week. New charges for Third Level and PLC Students from Friday, February 7. The new fee is now €3.00 annually.

South Laois Tourism are delighted to welcome the inclusion of the Durrow Leafy Loop on the popular RTE 1 programme Tracks and Trails which will be transmitted on Friday next Febuary 21 at 7.30pm presented by retired politician and author Liz McManus who will be accompanied by locals including historian Sean Conroy. An invitation to include the South Laois area in the latest series had been extended by Laois County Council, Bord na Mona, South Laois Tourism and Laois Partnership. Chairman of South Laois Tourism Michael G Phelan says programme will showcase one of the many attractions the area has to offer.
