St. Joseph’s National School will hold their official opening ceremony on

Friday May 2 at 12pm. All parents, past pupils, former staff and former

board of management members are invited to attend, along with the local

community. Light refreshments will be served afterwards in the school hall.


The death took place on Monday April 14 of Peter Joseph O’Keeffe,

Blackrock, Co. Dublin and formerly of Borris-in-Ossory, Co. Laois. His

remains were removed on Wednesday morning to the Church of the Guardian

Angels, Newtownpark Avenue for Requiem Mass, followed by burial in

Shanganagh Cemetery, Shankill. The late Peter is deeply regretted by his

wife Terry, family Mary, Margie, Bobby, Michael and Alicia,

daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandson, relatives and


He was son of the late Bob O’Keeffe who was headmaster in Borris in Ossory

Boys National School and was a noted figure in the Gaelic Athletic Association. Bob hurled with the local club and was a member of the Laois All Ireland winning hurling team in 1915. He was chairman of the Leinster Council, before serving as President of the GAA from 1935 to 1938. He is buried in Knockaroo Cemetery. The late Peter was the last surviving member of the O’Keeffe family. May he rest in peace.


The next meeting of Borris in Ossory ICA Guild will take place on Wednesday

May 7 at 8pm. The guild was represented at the ICA Annual dinner dance in the Gandon Inn recently and also at the Federation Annual General Meeing which was held in Mountmellick.

The annual memorial card game in honour of the late Micheal Dooley will take place on Thursday night May 15 at 9pm. Micheal was Treasurer of the club for many years and was responsible for starting the Progressive 25 Drive game in the club. It was originally planned to hold this game on Thursday April 24 but due to unforeseen circumstances it had to be postponed. The committee apologises for any inconvenience caused.


The stage is now set for the semi-finals and final of the Joseph Thompson Memorial Billiards Tournament. The semi-finalists are local player Joe Doheny V James Bateman (Kilkenny) and Aidan Murray (Wicklow) V Lloyd Myers (Cork). The date for the semi-finals will be announced next week.

killadooley ns FUN RUN

Killadooley N.S. Parents Council will hold a Family 5km / 10km Fun Run and Field Day on Sunday June 15. In preparation for this event there will be training sessions every Tuesday and Thursday night for eight weeks. The cost of the training will be €2.50 per night or €30 for the eight weeks.

Registration will take place in Killasmeestia Community field on Tuesday April 22 at 7pm and the first training session will take place immediately afterwards. Everyone will be required to wear hi-vis vests.
