The Parish lotto jackpot is now heading for 14,900 euro and it would be lovely jackpot to win. On April 21 the jackpot was 14,600 and it was not won, small winners were 30 euro Claire and Darren Bowe, 25 euro Helen O’Brien and 20 euro Geraldine O’Neill. The lotto of Monday night May 05 will be in Lennon’s Bar with a possible jackpot of 14,900 euro. All tickets must be handed in before 9.30 pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot

Mini Marathon

Anyone who wishes to travel by bus to the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon on June Bank Holiday Monday should give their name and a deposit of 10 euro’s to guarantee a seat. As seats are limited it would be advisable to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. All bookings are through Susan Lawlor at Lawlor’s Gala.

Heywood Community School will be holding a school fundraiser involving a Walk(5k), Run(5k) and Cycle (40k) on May 11 commencing at the school at 11am. Cullohill ICA

Cullohill ICA is hosting a Cookery Demonstration in Cullohill Community Centre on Tuesday May 13 at 8 pm. Local girl Catriona Bolger will show her excellent culinary expertise to all in attendance. Catriona has recently started her own cookery business and is really an excellent cook. Please come out in big numbers to support Catriona and give her a big boost as she starts her new venture. Admission is only five euro and all are welcome.


Over the month of May in Abbeyleix Day Care Centre in the afternoons, Bealtaine will be celebrated. Organised by the Arts Office, artist Anne Holland will give a series of weekly creative art workshops for patients and out-patients. Anne Holland is a visual artist with ten years experience working in the community. The programme will include ceramics, mosaic, photography and mono printing. On Tuesday May 20, in Gort na nOir, Abbeyleix from 1.30pm - 2.30pm, the Abbeyleix Active Retirement Group will hold a Lets Dance Event with dance tutor Maureen Culleton. Performing a selection of sequence dances from the Irish and Scottish dance traditions. Invitation only.


On Wednesday May 28, in Abbeyleix Hospital from 1.30pm theatre will take place. Organised by the Arts Office, Carnation Theatre in association with Age and Opportunity and The Hospice Foundation, presents Fuss On The Bus, a play that follows a life through a bus journey, from the first stop to the terminus. Poignant, musical, interactive, comic, this show will take you on a journey like no other. The performance space will be transformed into a double-decker, bars will be held on to, tickets will be issued, fare dodgers will not be tolerated and may we remind you that seats are not for feet! On Thursday May 22 in Abbeyleix Library from 6pm - 7.15pm, people can clebrate the Bealtaine Festival in the Library with a show entitled ‘The Good Old Days’. All are Welcome to this event.
