The annual Senior Citizens Party, organized by Borris in Ossory Social Services, took place in the PE Hall, St Joseph’s Convent School on Sunday, March 3. Special guests at the party were Rev Fr Jackie Robinson PP and Rev Ian Poulton, also residents from Cuan Bhride, Rathdowney and residents from Erkina House, Rathdowney. Catering was in the capable hands of Sheelagh Maher and her staff from Rosemount Catering and the musical entertainment was supplied by Martin Delaney. Martin was joined on stage by Gerry Walsh and Jimmy Carroll who played some traditional music and also by Laurence Campion. The ladies from the social dancing class under their teacher Maureen Culliton displayed their talents, a group of local “cowboys” sang some popular country and western songs and several of the guests did their party pieces. Social Services Chairperson Marian Carey paid tribute to the caterers, to Martin, to all the entertainers and to all the Social Services committee members who worked so hard to make the day successful.


A bus will travel to Knock Shrine, Co Mayo for Divine Mercy Sunday on April 7. The bus will be at the Leix County Hotel, Borris in Ossory at 8.30am. For further details contact Michael Sutcliffe at 089 4620860.


Borris in Ossory ICA members are reminded to return tickets and money for the guild’s annual fundraising raffle which will take place on Wednesday, March 27. There will be numerous prizes and tickets are still available from all the members and in local shops.


Names and deposits of €100 for Borris in Ossory ICA guild’s annual trip should be given to Lily Sheeran before the end of March. The trip will take place from Sunday, July 14 to Thursday, July 18 and the venue this year will be South Wales. The cost will be €385 which includes coach and ferry. The Ossory Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from May 22 to May 27. Bookings can be made by contacting Eleanor at or by phoning 051-880414 weekdays except Wednesday from 10.30am to 2.30pm. The fare is €735 including the bus to and from the airport.

Juvenile GAA

The U8’s U10’s and U12’s training will start back on Saturday, March 23 at 10.30am in Kilcotton Gaa grounds. Registration will also take place.

The U16’s got off to a winning start, in thier first league match. The next match will take place on March 23 against The Harps in Borris in Ossory GAA grounds.
