The history of AbbeyLeix built for the De Vesci’s is the feature of a free talk by local historian Tom Cox in Portlaoise library on Tuesday, August 6 at 8pm. The foundation stone for Abbeyleix was laid in 1773. Designed by James Wyatt, the house was built for Thomas Vesey. Redesigned by Thomas Wyatt in the late 19th century, the house remained in de Vesci hands until 1995.
Abbeyleix ICA are publishing a book, ‘100 years of Abbeyleix ICA’. We fully acknowledge the great support from the Leinster Express for supplying archival material and Laois Patnership who will part fund the project. They were also overwhelmed by the people’s good will in sharing precious and rare photographs. The book will be launced in November. Great stories to be told.

Condolences to the family of the late Kathleen Foyle (Nee Daly) of Knock, Abbeyliex and formerly Ballycumber, Co. Offaly who died on July 26, at St Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin.
