Tickets are now selling fast for Jigs & Reels in aid of Portarlington Community Development Assoc/Love Port and Port Meals on Wheels in the Heritage Hotel Killenard on Sunday October 27 (Bank Holiday). Congratulations to Neville Cox Deerpark who recently graduated from National University Maynooth with a double first class honours degree in history and philosophy. Neville is a son of Winifred and Rowland Cox. A past pupil of Colaiste Iosagain. He is continuing his postgraduate studies in Queen’s University.

Scissor Hands are hosting a coffee morning in aid of breast cancer in their salon on Thursday October 17 from 10am-1pm. Join them for some tea/coffee and some homemade sweet treats. It’s that time of year again when the annual Lions Club Portarlington hunt chase takes place on Sunday October 20 starting at Odlums Mill on Station Road at 2pm and finishes at approx 5pm at the Railway Bar, where light refreshments tea/coffee and some sandwiches and hot food will be served free of charge to all who attend the auction and raffle.
Credit Union Day
Mass will be celebrated for all deceased members in St Michael’s Church on Thursday October 17 at 10am. Refreshments will be served in the credit union office immediately after. Everybody is welcome to join us. Free draws throughout the day. All deceased members will also be remembered at the next prayer service in St Paul’s Church.

Arch Club Dancing

St Vincent de Paul are holding a fundraising dance in The Gandon Inn, Emo on Friday November 29. Donations for an Auction to be held on the night would be greatly appreciated.
Deepest sympathy to the family of Peg Crossan Ballymorris who died suddenly on Saturday September 28. Peg will be sadly missed by her daughter Mary her extended family and friends, and especially her good friend Susan. Requiem mass took place in St Michael’s Church on Monday September 30, with burial after to St Michael’s Cemetery.
It was with sadness that the town heard of the passing on Wednesday October 2 of 20 year old Lisa Bracken Arlington Estate. Lisa will be sadly missed by her parents Patrick and Jess, her brothers Patrick, Stephen and Kevin, sisters Tanya and Emma, her boyfriend Christopher, her nieces Katelyn and Danielle, her godson and nephew Christopher, grandparents, brother in law, sisters in law, aunts, uncles and her extended family and many friends. Requiem mass took place on Friday October 4 in St Michael’s Church, with burial after to St Michael’s Cemetery. Lisa had been ill for the past four years, and she was so brave and always had a smile through the good and bad times of her illness. Lisa had a great passion for Irish dancing and singing. She was a member of Port Irish Dancing group, and the group gave her a wonderful guard of honour on the day of her funeral. Her beautiful singing was also played in the church on the day. Lisa was looked after to the end by her wonderful family, her boyfriend and her very close friends. May Lisa rest in peace.
