First Holy Communion will be held in the Sacred Heart Church, Stradbally on this Saturday, May 17 at 11am and in Timahoe on Saturday, May 24 also at 11am.


The death occurred on Saturday, May 3 at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise of Kathleen (Katty) Murphy, Adrumdoney, Scotshouse, Clones, Monaghan and Stradbally. Beloved wife of the late Tommy Murphy, very sadly missed by her daughter Maura and sons Philip, Seamus and Jackie, grandchildren James and Elizabeth, son-in-law Jimmy, daughter-in-law Colette, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and her many friends. Her remains were reposing at her daughter Maura’s home 4 The Glebe, Stradbally on Monday 5 until removal on Wednesday to the Church of The Immaculate Conception, Scotshouse, Clones, Co. Monaghan for Requiem Mass followed by burial in adjoining cemetery.


All juveniles meet at Stradbally Lake on Saturday, May 24 at 11.30am to form a Juvenile Club. All juveniles will collect their rods and reels sponsored by Stradbally Angling Club. Lessons will be given on the day. All juvenile girls fishing will be supervised by senior ladies. Refreshments on the day. All welcome. A great days outing assured.


There are some seats available for the World Flower Show to be held in the R.D.S.on June 20. (Bus, admission ticket and evening meal) Please contact any member of the committee. This is the first time that the World Flower Show has come to Ireland.


Next whist will be held on Friday, May 16. Proceeds will be given to the Glebe fund for the young people who are going out to Zambia to work by helping those in orphanages, hospitals, schools, etc who are living in appalling circumstances. A donation towards prizes would be greatly appreciated. Please support if possible. Whist commences at 8.30pm sharp


Arts and Crafts: Saturday, May 17 at The Laois Arthouse, Stradbally from 11am-1pm. In conjunction with National Drawing Day Laois based artist, Caroline Keane will host a fun and creative drawing workshop for the Vicarstown Active Age Group. Stradbally parish St Vincent De Paul is looking for unwanted good quality clothes for the shop on Main Street and you can drop them into the shop. A reminder that this year’s Medley Day in Timahoe will be held on Sunday, June 29. A day’s outing for all the family, not to be missed.
