Laois Fleadh Ceoil, organised under the auspices of Spink CCÉ will be held at Abbeyleix from May 30 to June 1. Thanks to St Mary’s Primary school all competitions will take place at the Ballyroan road venue. email@example.com.
On Tuesday May 20, in Gort na nOir, Abbeyleix from 1.30pm - 2.30pm, the Abbeyleix Active Retirement Group will hold a Lets Dance Event with dance tutor Maureen Culleton. Performing a selection of sequence dances from the Irish and Scottish dance traditions. Invitation only.
On Thursday May 22 in Abbeyleix Library from 6pm - 7.15pm, people can clebrate the Bealtaine Festival in the Library with a show entitled ‘The Good Old Days’. All are Welcome to this event.
From April 29 - May 30 Spink Comhaltas will hold an exhibition of photos, trophys etc as part of their hosting the Laois Fleadh Cheoil. Juvenile Chess Club meets every Saturday morning at 10am. Our Knitting Club takes place each Wednesday, 10.30 and 12.30pm.
Late Thomas KIRWAN
Condolences to the family of the late Thomas Kirwan of Ballymullen, Abbeyleix who died on May 6. Deply regretted by his sister Annie, cousins, relatives and friends. Reposed at the Chapel of Rest General Hospital Portlaoise. Removal to the Church of the Most Holy Rosary, Abbeyleix. Requiem Mass with interment immediately afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Late Catherine Broderick
Codolences to the family of the late Catherine Broderick nee Phelan (Larchville, Waterford, and formerly of Abbeyleix) who died on May 2 at Waterford Regional Hospital, Catherine, wife of the late William will be sadly missed by her loving sons, daughters, sister Peg, relatives and friends. Requiem Mass at St Paul’s Church funeral afterwards to Lismore Cemetery, Co. Waterford.
May meeting was held on Tuesday May 6. Pat o Halloran, President, opened meeting with prayer and My Land. Vote of sympathy was passed with Yvonne Porter on recent bereavement. Sadie Chester read minutes of March meeting in the absence of secretary Alice Reilly. National AGM will be held in the Park Hotel, Mullingar on May 24. Details of brown bread competition sponsored by Aldi were announced. Report on federation meeting were read. Laois week, June 16, bus leaving Maldron hotel, Portlaoise at 2pm. Produce Day is on May 10 2 -4 pm in Castletown. Federation Choir will entertain patients in Abbeyleix and Mountmellick Hospital on May 13 – 14. A social half hour was very much enjoyed by all. Meeting ended with supper served by Brenda Dunican. Hostess for June is Sadie Chester. Next meeting on June 3 at 8pm. Raffle 1 Pat o Halloran, 2 Sadie Chester. Competition 1 Pat o Halloran.
