On Friday October 24 the club will be holding a family fun filled night at the dogs at Newbridge Greyhound Stadium. Tickets are €10 per adult with children under 16 Free. Doors open 7pm with first race 8pm.Tickets from usual outlets. The lotto jackpot worth €5800 and held in Kirwans was not won. Next lotto in Purcell’s is worth €6000.
Adult Book Club. Next meeting will take place on Thursday Oct 2. We will be discussing ‘The Pleasures of Eliza Lynch’ by Anne Enright. Copies are available at the library and new members are always welcome. The knitting club continues to meet every Friday morning 10.30-12.30pm.
A seminar promoting self-care for family carers will take place on Wednesday Oct 1 from 10am to 4pm in Portlaoise Parish Centre. Guest speakers will talk on topics including entitlements and services for carers, personal journeys of carers and mindfulness. Admission is free and all are welcome. Thank you to everyone who helped make our recent Open Night such a success, we really enjoyed displaying our efforts and meeting the public. We are having our next meeting in METAC on Tuesday October 7 at 8pm, new members very welcome. We meet every second Tuesday in METAC. Results for our summer theme: 1st Kate Wood, 2nd Dan Phelan, 3rd Eddie Phelan. Well done to our winners and to all who entered.

The club had our end of season presentation night for all the girls on Friday. Our sincerest thanks to all involved in organising this. A huge thank you To Caroline and Ray Moore for the Andrew & Amy Moore Perpetual Trophy, awarded to Ashling Brennan U/13, voted our most improved player this year. We wish to thank St Fintan’s GAA Club for all their support and encouragement throughout the year and look forward to growing with them in the newly refurbished grounds. Thank you to all mentors, coaches Dan, Ashling, Carmel, Sinead and all parents who helped out throughout the year. A reminder also that we will be having a table quiz in Ollie’s on November 7 (adults only), come along, bring a team - a great night guaranteed.
Late JOHN WALSH
Condolences to the family of the late John Walsh Clonard, Mountrath who died on September 20 in the loving care Lir House, Castlepollard. Son of Mary and the late Paddy, he is deeply and sadly missed by his loving mother, brothers, sisters, extended family, relatives and friends. Removal to arrive at St Fintan’s Church, Mountrath for funeral mass followed by burial in St Fintan’s Cemetery Mountrath.
The sale of jam continues in Costcutters Mountrath and Phelan’s Shop Castletown. We would like to thank everyone for their continuing support for this worthy cause by buying jam and donating fruit.
The outdoor gym in the local amenity park can be used by all ages. We would encourage all local clubs and groups to use this facility.
