Christmas Lights and Crib
The Christmas lights and the blessing of the new crib will take place in the square on Friday night December 7 at 7pm. there will be a carol service and all are welcome. Anyone wishing to donate to the cost of the Christmas lights can give their donation into the boxes in all the shops.
The parish lotto with a jackpot of €4,150 was not won, small winners were €30 Claire Phelan, €25 Ray Fogarty, €20 Daniel Kenna. The lotto December 10 will be held in Lennon’s with a possible jackpot of €4,450. All tickets must be handed in before 9.30 pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot.
Just in Time
Well done to Colin Lawlor, Clonking, Abbeyleix, on being one of the twenty six recipients of the Just in Time awards given by the Irish Water Safety at an awards ceremony held in City Hall, Dublin on Tuesday November 27. Colin received his award for rescuing a man from the river Nore in Kilkenny city in August 2011. Colin was presented with a Seiko Watch and a frame certificate by Minister of State John Perry. Colin had just completed a water safety and life saving course in Portlaoise in the previous months. One of his tutor was Valerie Case, his next door neighbour and good friend who also received an award for twenty five years of voluntary service to water safety . Well done to an excellent tutor and a very good student.
On maternity leave, at home with small ones, why not come along to the Little Oaks Parent and Toddlers Group that meet every Tuesday in the Presentation Hall from 10 am to 12 noon. This group is open to children up to 5 years of age accompanied by their parent/carer. The Swan Road Action Group was formed last September to highlight the extremely dangerous conditions of the Swan road out of Durrow. The aim of the group is to have a footpath constructed from the fire station to the 50 km sign and to remove the two dangerous bends which would make the road a safer place for everyone. After meeting with county council officials it was decided to construct a footpath from the fire station to GAA field and the work was to start before Christmas. This project is deferred as other work has taken precedents. The action group have written to the council seeking an update on when the work will commence. The Swan Road action group are holding a table quiz in Bob’s Bar on Thursday December 6 at 9.30 pm. table of four forty euro your support would be greatly appreciated. All welcome.
Durrow Vintage Club LTD are holding a Die-Cast Model and Diorama Show on Saturday December 8 from 9.30am to 5.30pm in the Castle Arms Hotel.
