MYDC INFORMATION SESSION
Members of the community are invited to an information session on Wednesday September 16 from 9.30am to10.30am. Bernadette from Barnardos will talk about a new system of working with children and families called Meithal. Meithal’s aim is to help you and your child (ren) get the support you need, easily, locally and when you need it.
Information leaflets are available from MDA. Community members not already attached with the MYDC are welcome.
FREE PARENTING PROGRAMME
There will be a Free Triple P Parenting Programme for parents of children aged from birth to 7 years in the Treo Nua Family Resource Centre Portlaoise on Thursday September 17.

ART EXHIBITION
Kilbride Art Group is exhibiting their paintings in the library gallery during September. There was a good attendance at the official opening last Tuesday.

ADULT CRIME BOOK CLUB
The Adult Crime book club will meet on Wednesday September 30 at 11am. The book chosen for this month is ‘Missing without trace in Ireland’ by Barry Cummins.
WILDLIFE TALK
Wildlife expert Ricky Whelan from the Laois/Offaly branch of Irish Wildlife Trust will give a talk on Irish Wildlife animals on Saturday September 19 at 11am in the library. A display of knitted animals courtesy of Mountmellick Yarnbombers will accompany this event. Not to be missed.
KNITTING GROUP
Meetings resume in the library on Tuesdays from 10.30am to 12.30pm from September 22. All welcome.
JOBS CLUB AT LIBRARY
The workshop will be on Tuesday September 29 to Friday October 2 and Tuesday October 6 to Friday October 9 from 10.30am to 12.30pm each day. Includes CV preparation, interview techniques and mock interviews. Contact 057 8644572. Participants must be in receipt of social welfare.
POETRY READING
Ann Egan and Tom Philips will read on Tuesday September 22 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm in the library. All welcome along, tea and coffee will be served.
NIGHT AT THE DOGS
This parish fundraiser is next Friday September 18 in Newbridge Greyhound Track. Tickets €10 and €5 for the bus on sale in the parish office. Anyone who can assist with selling tickets at home or your workplace etc, please contact the parish office. A friendly walking group meets each Wednesday at Portlaoise Leisure Centre from 7pm to 8pm. A social weekly meet up for a gentle stroll and a chat for any persons of any age, with arthritis, fibromyalgia etc.
SING FOR JOY CHOIR

LATE PASCHAL CONROY
There was much sadness at the death of Paschal Conroy of 2 Davin Park on Friday September 4 at St Vincent’s Hospital Dublin. Paschal was predeceased by his wife Sheila and daughter Anne. Remains reposed at his daughter Rona’s home in Wolfe Tone Street from Saturday until removal on Sunday evening to St Joseph’s Church. Requiem Mass was celebrated at noon on Monday with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Paschal son, daughters, family, relatives and friends on their bereavement.
