The entire community of Borris in Ossory was deeply saddened by the untimely death of Shane Finan, 10 New Row, Green Road, Portlaoise and formerly of St Canice’s Terrace, Borris in Ossory, Co. Laois. His remains reposed at his grandparents’ home in Portlaoise until removal on Thursday morning November 14 to SS Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise for Requiem Mass followed by burial in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.

The late Shane was the eldest son of Declan and Louise Finan and is deeply regretted by his heartbroken parents, brothers Stephen and Jake, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.


Sympathy is extended to the Kelly families Ballymeelish and Mountain View House, Main Street, Borris in Ossory on the sudden death of their cousin, the late David Floyd, Cois Coille, Foynes, Co. Limerick. The late David is deeply regretted by his wife Rita, daughters Fiona and Niamh, son Brian, son-in-law Alain, daughter-in-law Roisin, sister-in-law Nell, cousins, relatives and a large circle of friends. His late mother, Mrs Peg Floyd was a member of the Loughman family, Killasmeestia. May he rest in peace.


Borris-In-Ossory and Rushall Coursing Club will run its annual two day fixture at Ballymeelish, Green Roads on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 November commencing at 11.30am each day.


The last meeting of Killasmeestia ICA guild took place on Wednesday November 6. A vote of sympathy was passed with Fr Martin Delaney PP. Rathdowney and with the Sheeran family Borris-in-Ossory on the death of Mrs Sadie Delaney Camross RIP. Get well wishes are extended to Lily Sheeran, also to Queenie Walsh who are both in hospital. Two members gave an account of their recent trip which included two nights at An Grianin, Termonfeckin, Co. Louth and tours to places of interest during the day such as Cooley Peninsula, Carlingford, etc. They were part of a group of 50 other ladies and a great time was had by all. With Christmas around the corner, party nights are beckoning and the ladies of the guild are heading to Fitzpatrick’s of Clonmore for their night out. The guild will be represented at the Federation meeting on Sunday November 24 in Castletown. The next guild meeting will take place on Wednesday December 4.


Borris in Ossory Community Alert Committee members will be available to sign up new members to the Text Alert in the Fas Office (Church Car Park) on Saturday November 23 from 7.30pm to 8pm. All those wishing to join please attend. The sign-up fee is €20.


Borris in Ossory Community Alert Committee wishes to sincerely thank all those who turned up to assist in the search for the late Shane Finan. Thanks also to those who donated food and helped with catering. The committee extends its sympathy to the Finan family on the sad passing of Shane. May he rest in peace.


Next meeting of the Garden Club will be held on Thursday November 21 at 8pm in St Canice’s Hall, Borris -in-Ossory. There will be a Demonstration on the making of Christmas table decorations.


The results of the bridge competition played on Tuesday October 29 were as follows. 1st Rosario Cullinan and Noreen Hanrahan, 2nd Stella Kealy and Pat Kelly, 3rd Teresa Butler and Irene Delaney.

The results of the Competition played on Tuesday November 5 were 1st Molly Bates and Michael Murray, 2nd Breda Sharpe and Ann Maher, 3rd Margaret Scott and Noreen Fitzgerald.

Borris in Ossory Bridge Club meets every Tuesday evening at 7.30pm.


Set dancing classes are taking place in St Canice’s Hall, Borris in Ossory every Monday night at 8.30pm. The cost is €5 per night. For further details please contact Eileen Daly at 087 6699412.


The Parent and Toddler group continues every Monday morning from 10am to 11.30am in St Canice’s Hall, Borris in Ossory. All parents, grandparents and minders are welcome.

Borris in Ossory Fundraiser in aid of Laois Sports Partnership, Sports inclusion Disability Programme. A fundraising sale will be taking place in the near future in a shop unit, Main St, Borris in Ossory. We are asking for donations of any kind, new or old to help us reach our target ie. clothes, ornaments, toys, jewellery, plants, books, household items etc. Any donations for a cake sale, items for a raffle or items to make up hampers. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place each Tuesday in St Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory from 10am to 3pm. Adoration takes place in Killasmeestia Church on Thursdays from 9.30am to 3pm and in Knockaroo Church on Tuesdays between 2pm and 4pm. Anyone is welcome to come along and spend some time in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.


Dancing for fun with Maureen Culleton takes place each Thursday in St Canice’s Hall, Borris in Ossory from 2pm-4pm. All are welcome.
