Laois TD and Fine Gael Chairman Charlie Flanagan has said that he expects the new circular lake walkway at Emo Court to open in time for the Spring.

Deputy Flanagan initially asked the OPW and Minister Brian Hayes to explore the possibility of constructing a walkway around the lake as an added tourism attraction for visitors to Emo Court.

“Following the completion of engineering and landscape surveys by the OPW I was informed that contracts were issued following a tender process.

“The construction works on the circular walkway are now well underway. The project involves nearly 800 metres of pathway and two small bridges around the lake.

“The addition of a circular walkway which reinstates pre existing routes and vistas will ensure that tourists are able to absorb the fantastic new views across the lake to the historic landscape of Gandon’s architectural masterpieces. Emo Court is a fantastic amenity that draws thousands of people to the walks around the gardens each year,” said the TD.

Dep Flanagan said regular users visitors to Emo will get great use and enjoyment from this new recreational
amenity.

“It is my expectation that the walkway will be open to the public from early Spring,” he said.
