Durrow Vintage Club Ltd are holding their Annual Show and autojumble on April 13 in Durrow. We will have our usual display of Cars, tractors, oil engines, steam engines together with our Pre 1930 section.

This year we are having a special display of Marshall Tractors and Steam Engines. Admission is €5.00 per adult and children under 12 are free. For more information contact Austin on 086 8860598.


The Parish lotto jackpot is now heading for €14,450 and it would be lovely jackpot to win. On March 31 the jackpot was €14,150 and it was not won, small winners were €30 Fintan Deegan, €25 John Dohney, and €20 Sean Conroy.

The lotto of Monday night April 17 will be in Castle Arms Hotel with a possible jackpot of €14,450. All tickets must be handed in before 9.30pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot


With the trout fishing season off to a great start everyone who fishes the club waters are reminded that a permit is necessary to fish otherwise membership of the Durrow/Cullohill Parish anglers.

Membership for season 2014 is now due and can be got in Lawlor’s Gala, The Square, Lawlor’s Flower Shop, Daybreak Store, The Square and Michael Walsh, Club secretary.

On Sunday March 30 the club held a trout fishing competition for the Billy Lawlor Memorial cup. There were some lovely fish weighed in and the winner was Jonathan Stapleton, 2nd Patrick 0’Regan and 3rd Alan Dwyer.

Under 14 yrs.1st Keelan Carroll, 2nd Jack McGree and 3rd Lee Coffey. Next Competition will be held on Sunday April 13 2014 for the Bill Kelly Memorial Cup for trout. The Club wishes Pat Dunphy and Tommy Coffey the best of good luck when they compete in the All-Ireland Pike fishing competition to be held in early April.


Clean up Laois Week is being held from 7th to 11th April and Durrow Tidy Towns ask all residents of Durrow to make a special effort during that week to pick litter in your area. Our next Tidy Towns committee meeting will be held on Thursday 27th March at 8.00pm in the Small Hall beside the church. All members please attend.


Come join us at our Coffee Morning and Cake Sale in the Presentation Centre after mass on Sunday 13th April for some delicious treats.

Easter Egg Draw

The Harps Juvenile Committee will be running its Annual Easter Egg Draw again this Easter and tickets will shortly be on sale from all Juvenile Committee members at €2 each.

This is the major yearly fundraiser for the Juvenile Club and the support of all parents would be greatly appreciated. The draw will take place in O’Connell’s Bar, Cullohill on Easter Sunday night, April 20th, in conjunction with a Cabaret and your support on the night would also be greatly appreciated.

Stations of the Cross

The Stations of the Cross will take place in Dunmore Wood, Durrow on Good Friday April 18. Please assemble at 11.45 am. Stations begin at 12 noon, all are welcome

Cullohill Tidy Towns

Next week is Laois Clean-up week. Bags of roadside rubbish will be collected by Laois Co. Council at the weekend. We appeal for a good response to this work and we ask each area to make sure their areas are litter free and clean. No domestic rubbish please. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to our friend Teresa Delehunty.


Cullohill ICA held their monthly meeting in the Community Centre on Tuesday night and all were welcomed to the meeting.Votes of sympathy and prayers were said for the following; the Dunphy family on the death of Dom Angus Dunphy, Eileen Ryan on death of Mick Ryan, Duggan family on death of Peadar, and nephews and nieces of the late Jack Fitzpatrick, Ballykealy.

The minutes of the AGM were read and membership was collected for 2014. Some members will travel to Spink for the ICA Choir Concert. Congratulations to Abbeyleix ICA on achieving a hundred years in existence. Two members were chosen to attend Laois Week in June. Four or five members will attend the Federation AGM in Mountmellick on April 23. Happy Easter to all, next meeting May 6
