Little Black Dress Night

This year’s Little Black Dress Night in aid of PCDA/LovePort was cancelled and rescheduled for this Friday June 20 at 8pm downstairs in the Anvil Inn. Conchita Wurst (Eurovision winner) look-a-like competition. Open to men and women.

Also on the night we have a performance from the winner of Port GAA Stars in your Eyes, Johnny Dunne (Elvis) and runner-up Louise Coogan McEvoy and Louise Murphy (Abba), two acts not to be missed.

Cemetery Mass

Cemetery Mass takes place in the following cemeteries in Portarlington Parish. Killenard Friday July 4 7.30pm. St Michael’s Portarlington Friday July 11 7.30pm. Emo Friday July 25 7.30pm.

Lourdes Pilgrimage

Deepest sympathy to the family and friends of John Costello, Crowe Lane and formerly Lea who passed away on June 4 at his residence. Requiem mass took place in St John’s Church Killenard, with burial after in the adjoining cemetery. May John rest in peace. 


Deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Maureen Scully (nee Gorman) Cloneyhurke who passed away on Friday June 6 at Naas Hospital. Requiem mass took place on Monday June 9 at St Michael’s Church, with funeral after in St Michael’s Cemetery. May Maureen rest in peace.

Ben & Jake Trust Fund

Ben and Jake Connolly were born with a rare syndrome called Allan Herndon Dudley Syndrome. They are the only current cases in Ireland. Several fundraisers have been set up for the boys who live with their parents Terence and Nicolette Connolly in Mountmellick. Ben and Jake are grandsons of Tommy and Mary Connolly Doolagh Portarlington.

Portarlington Combined Residents

The Portarlington Combined Residents Association was set up a number of years ago to bring all town residents together to deal as one voice, with Laois and Offaly County Councils, to discuss and resolve problems which arise in our areas.

The major issues we have been made aware of to date are as follows: housing estates left unfinished by developers and not yet taken in charge by the County Councils; roads and footpaths unfinished or badly in need of repair. These are just some of the concerns.

Laois County Show will take place on Sunday, July 27 Coolfin, Rathdowney Co Laois. €1,000 beef bullock, €1,000 beef heifer, €1,000 fresian calf championship, crossbred Belgian blue championship, working hunter championship, vintage, sidesaddle, cookery demonstration, home produce and side shows.

Other attractions: cattle, sheep, horses, poultry, craft, eggs, flowers, baking, jams, sewing, knitting, vegetables, photography, flower arrangements. Junior classes, most suitable dressed lady and gentleman on show day. Little Miss Ossory, most suitable dressed boy on show day. Fun dog show, trade stands, music and lost more.

Ordination Singers

The ordination of Sean Hyland will take place in St Michael’s Church on Sunday July 13 with Bishop Denis Nulty. The first mass will be held on Wednesday July 16. We have a good choir and will augment it for the occasion. If you would like to join us and can hold a tune you will be most welcome.

Portarlington Junior Tennis Club

There is a limited number of places still available on our summer activities programme. Register now and receive free club membership for a full year. Total cost for eight weeks of tennis activities, Monday to Friday, 2.30 to 5.30 in July and August is €50.
