CHRISTMAS FLOWER DEMONSTRATION
Stradbally Union are holding a Christmas flower demonstration in aid of Luggacurren Church, by Floral Essence, on Saturday, November 15 in Abbeyleix Manor Hotel commencing at 8pm. Admission is €15, guest artist Des Willoughby (singer). All support welcome. A great night assured.
1914-1918 WAR dead
This year we are remembering all those who died in the 1914-1918 War. Later on in November (date to be fixed) we will have an Ecumenical Prayer Service in their memory in Stradbally. We have the names of 26 men from the area. If you have any photos or letters from that time or memorabilia we could display them on the day. You can leave into Parish Office of to James Deegan. BUS TO CLONFERT
Bus to Clonfert for a day of prayer and healing on Sunday, November 16 (For the Holy Souls) Holy Mass and Prayers leaving Stradbally at 10.30am. Phone Eileen 059-8625215/8625902.
On Friday, November 7 at 8p-m, the Laois Arthouse and Library in Stradbally is the venue for readings by the best selling novelist, Donal Ryan and Poet Louis de Paor. Musical accompaniment Uileann piper Sean McKeon. MC on the night is Ann Marie Hourihane. Fee €12. Tickets from the Dunamaise.
FLOWER AND GARDEN CLUB UPDATE
The annual Christmas demonstration is on December 10 in St Josephs Hall and this year’s demonstration will be given by Christine Hughes, from Blessington.
The annual Christmas party night is booked for December 13 in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise and the guest entertainer on the night is Damian Bowe. Anyone wishing to attend the dinner please give your name to the committee as soon as possible as places are limited.
Next meeting, tomorrow night, Wednesday, November 5 and don’t foget to bring your shoeboxes.
Stradbally Flower and Garden Club are helping out with this very worthy project and anyone wishing to take part by giving a shoebox with Christmas gifts for the poor children of Africa and Eastern Europe who will not see Santa this year and depend on our generosity. Please contact Vera at 8625273 or Dorrie at 8625217 or any member of the club for leaflets and we will arrange to have your shoeboxes or gifts delivered for you. Please have boxes in by the end of October.
Next whist drive will be held on Friday, November 21 commencing at 8.30pm and all are welcome on the night.
ELECTRIC PICNIC 2014
Applications from local clubs, charities and associations are being accepted seeking funding from proceeds of residents tickets from this years event. Organisations must submit application detailing what they propose to spend any potential donation on in the year ahead. Applications will be accepted up to closing date on this coming Friday, November 7, addressed to Carmel Dillon, Secretary Electric Picnic Residents Committee, 10 Church Avenue, Stradbally. Strictly no late applications will be accepted.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL
They are looking for donations that can go on sale in the shop. If you have any unwanted good quality ladies, gents and childrens winter clothing and footwear, they can be dropped off Tuesday to Friday 10am to 4pm, Saturday 10am to 1pm. Thank you for your continued support.
The Stradbally Angling Juvenile Club held a very successful draw and the winners that came out of the drum at the club’s draw held in Dunnes last Saturday, October 25 were Eamonn Beale first prize of €400, Leanne Kelly won €200 and other winners included Mags & Sean, Brigid Walsh, Liam Casey and Bridie Ferry. Thanks to all who sold or bought tickets to make this fundraiser a great success.
The housebound of the parish will be attended to on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

A Stradbally nursing home employee is preparing to represent The O’Moore County at the Nursing Homes Ireland Care Awards 2014, in Dublin on 6th November. Martina Dunne of Droimnin Nursing Home is one of three finalists in the Nursing Home Catering & Nutrition Award category.
Martina will go forward to the prestigious national awards ceremony that will take place in Citywest Hotel, Co Dublin on Thursday, November 6.
