Ballyroan Parents Association in association with Ballyroan Juvenile GAA will host a family fun day this bank holiday Sunday May 6 in the Ballyroan GAA grounds from 1pm. There will be plenty to suit all the family including juvenile football matches, dog show, inter-schools art competition, numerous side shows, stalls selling produce, stands showcasing local crafts and business. The boys and girls from both schools will be manning some of the stalls and there will be plenty of bargains to be had. The money raised from the fun day will benefit both schools to help reduce the costs of back to school and any activities the children partake in. The juvenile club will also benefit and with the U14 Féile in June and the U10 team in the Community Games final shortly all funds will be put to good use. It would be great to see a big turnout to help make this venture a success.

The first leg of our inaugural Get Fit For Summer Challenge took place on Wednesday April 11 last with a 4km race/fun run in Abbeyleix. It was the first organised run to be held in Abbeyleix in many years and it proved to be an outstanding success with 194 runners, joggers and walkers registering to participate on the night. Race headquarters was the beautiful Abbeyleix Manor Hotel, who proved superb hosts on what was a special evening. We would also like to show our appreciation to the local businesses who donated both cash and spot prizes for distribution on the night. Without such kind sponsors and friends the event would not have been the huge success it turned out to be.

The second fun run took part on a wet and cold Thursday evening. In spite of the bad weather there was a fantastic turn out with 214 hardy souls registering. The next fun run/walk will be held in Durrow on Wednesday May 9 at 7.30 and it will be 6k. If anyone is interested there is a walking/jogging group meeting in the Manor Hotel car park Monday and Thursday evenings at 7.30. New comers are always welcome. Club training continues Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm in Ballyroan GAA grounds.
