RATHDOWNEY ACTIVE RETIREMENT GROUP
closed for the summer recess on Wednesday June 27, with a lovely meal and social evening in the local golf club. The past six months has proved to be an active time in the club. In May, 30 members enjoyed a four day trip to Sligo and went on tours to some interesting places like the Arigna coal mines, Glencar Water Falls, the Ceolaras music museum where we were entertained by a group of traditional musicians, singers and dancers. Also we went on a cruise on the Rose of Innisfree tour boat and that included live commentary and poetry recital. The lovely sunny weather for the four days added to the enjoyment. At the weekly meetings that take place in Cuan Bhride every Tuesday there was a mixed range of activities like bingo, music and dancing, exercises for the elderly. Guest speakers were invited to attend some meetings and delivered some interesting information on a variety of topics. Five members attended the ‘Go for Life’ course in Portlaoise. This was a programme for sport and physical activity for older people. Some social outings also took place. Remember new members are always welcome. The club members were saddened to hear of the recent untimely death of Mary Purcell who had been in the club for some time. Sincere sympathy is extended to her husband Eddie and family.
