The group meet every Friday morning in the Marion Centre (beside the RC Church) from 10-12. All welcome parents and minders with children from new born to pre-school. €3 per morning.

The club meet every Monday from 2pm to 4.30pm in the communal centre on Cuan Bhride. They do wonderful work and are like one big family. They have knitted lots of hats for new born babies and premature babies and have donated large amounts to Temple Street Children’s Hospital, Portlaoise Hospital maternity unit and St. Lukes Hospital maternity unit Kilkenny. All are extremely grateful for the beautiful hats and say a sincere thanks to the knitters. Our club is always anxious to get new members to join. So come along to us any Monday.


Congratulations are in order for Jimmy O’Connell, Glosha Rathdowney who celebrated his 80th birthday. His family organized a surprise party for Jimmy in O’Reilly’s lounge, special credit goes to Shelia and Seamus, Geraldine and Michael, Frances, Catriona and all the friends and neighbours. A great night was had by all and we wish Jimmy many more happy birthdays.


The next meeting is on Monday September 24 in the library at 8pm. The book for review is That They May Face the Rising Sun by John McGahern.

Bishop’s Vintage Visit

On September 20, The Right Reverend Michael Burrows will be in in Rathdowney outside St Andrew’s Church where we hope to have a vintage gathering at approximately 1.45pm.

Harvest Thanksgiving

Our annual Service of thanksgiving for the harvest will be held in St Andrew’s Church, Rathdowney on Sunday September 23 at 8pm. Special preacher, Fr Martin Delaney. Refreshments in the parochial hall after the service.


Condolences to the family of the late John (Sean) Mulrooney of Middlemount, Rathdowney, formally Shinrone who died at St Lukes Hospital Dublin on Friday, September 14 surrounded by his loving family, after a short illness bravely borne. John (Sean) deeply regretted by his loving wife Marcella, daughter Jennifer, sons Kevin and Garry. Mother Margaret, brothers Martin and Jimmy, stepchildren Jackie, Stephen and Andrea extended family relatives and a large circle of friends. Reposed at the family home (Middlemount) until removal for requiem mass in the Church of the Holy Trinity Rathdowney followed by interment in Bealady cemetery.
