The group are holding a disco for 9 to 12 year olds in the Owenass hall on Friday April 19 from 8pm to 10pm, all welcome, strict supervision. Admission is €5 which includes a drink and packet of crisps.
HOSPITAL SUPPORT GROUP MEETING
The Relatives and Friends of St Vincent’s Support Group are holding a committee meeting on Wednesday April 17 in Mountmellick town hall at 8.30pm. They would appreciate if all members could attend.
Well done to the two swimmers who represented Mountmellick at the recent county finals in Portlaoise. Órlaith Whelan took 4th place in the u12 backstroke and Caoimhe Guinan took silver in the u10 freestyle. A brilliant achievement by both the swimmers.
COMMUNITY GAMES SPIKEBALL
Mountmellick Community Games will hold Spikeball (a junior version of volleyball) trials/training in Mountmellick Smith’s Field on Friday April 26 and Friday May 3 at 5pm. This is open to boys and girls who are still u14 on July 31 2013 (If you turn 14 years on August 1, that is fine). All are welcome. There will be a registration fee of €3.50 per child.

CUISLE CENTRE FUNDRAISER
A fundraiser will take place on Sunday May 5 from 3pm to 6pm in the Heritage Hotel Killenard in aid of the Cuisle Centre Cancer Support group. Country music by Guess Who. Free transport is being provided by Silver Dawn & Foster Coaches with the bus departing the Square Mountmellick at 2pm. Coaches will leave the Heritage Hotel Killenard at 7pm. WIZARD OF OZ
Brian Brady Youth Theatre presents the musical The Wizard of Oz from April 17 to 20 at 8pm in the Macra Hall. Many local children are taking part and it’s sure to be a fun filled family evening of entertainment. Tickets are available in O’Gorman’s shop or on the door.
Well done to our novelty act group and our disco dancing group that are through to the next round in the National Talent Competition. Well done to Taira Lewis and Meaghan Dunne for performing so well in the solo singing part of the competition. Details on semi-final to follow. ARTIST’S TALK IN LIBRARY
In Mountmellick Library on Friday May 3 at 2.15pm there will be a special talk by Wexford based artist Mary Wallace, whose exhibition ‘Abundance’ is currently on show in the art gallery. Mary will introduce her work which comprises a selection of mixed media paintings and weaving. She uses an array of media including beeswax, wax encaustic and egg tempera. Her inspiration comes from nature, strongly centred on fruit trees, in particular Mediterranean fruit trees and their natural exotic beauty. This is an opportunity for all those who are interested in art to meet Mary, talk to her and gain some insight into her unique style and approach to art. Tuesdays aqua aerobics in Portlaoise Leisure Centre at noon with the free bus leaving MDA at 11.15am. 3pm to 4.30pm in Wolfe Tone. Dancing with Maureen Culleton is from 3pm to 4.30pm on Wednesday April 10 and 17 in Wolfe Tone Court. There will be no dancing on Wednesday April 24 and May 1. Thursdays music & song in St Vincent’s Hospital from 2pm to 4pm and also art classes in MDA from 2pm to 4pm. Please note that the annual membership fee is now being collected. New members are always welcome.

Adult training: Senior and Junior football is on Wednesday and Friday nights. Hurling training is on Saturday evenings.
Hurling training takes place in Acragar on Monday evenings at the following times: 6.30pm to 7.30 pm for u8 and u10; 7.30pm to 8.30 pm for u12. All new players are welcome to attend. Training for u14 footballers is on Monday nights.

LAOIS MARTIAL ART
Kickboxing and Taekwondo classes for juniors, seniors and adults are held in Mountmellick and Portlaoise on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Ladies classes are now also available. The Owenass Active Living Group is taking part in The Gathering Ireland 2013. They are organising a number of events and hope to attract people to Mountmellick during Heritage Week (August 17 - 25). These events will also be promoted by the Heritage Council, Laois County Council, The Gathering Ireland and Fáilte Ireland. As the Gathering Ireland website suggests very few accommodation options in Mountmellick, The group are hoping to make the week as much of a community event as possible.
