The committee of Social Services/Meals on Wheels would like to thank Adrian Dunne and his staff in his pharmacy for presenting a cheque for €250 to our treasurer Eva Johnston last week. The money was raised by Leanne McNamara, Courtwood, who organised a coffee morning and did all the lovely confectionary herself. Leanne also raised money for to bring to Haiti to do voluntary work out there. Leanne is a daughter of Johnny and Elizabeth McNamara Courtwood and granddaughter of Terry and Ann Higgins, Main Street. The very best of luck to Leanne on her travels.

The Canal 5K

Courtwood GAA’s third annual 5K road race took place recently and on a beautiful day attracted a big turnout of runners who ran the scenic route, starting just below the club gates, past the Fishermans Inn, along the canal banks and back to the GAA grounds.

The men’s top three were Colm Burke, John Fenlon and Aengus Burke, with the first three women runners being Grace McConnell, Olivia Sheerin and Sinead Rigney. Well done to all.

A huge word of thanks to our friends in St Michael’s AC, Portarlington who secured the AAI licence for the race and also helped greatly in the planning and routing of the race.

The Courtwood GAA family fun day recently proved to be a great success with the weather holding up and generating a great atmosphere all day. The list of thank yous is too extensive, but just to extend our gratitude to everyone who made the day such a success.
