A Social will take place in Killasmeestia Community Centre on this Friday night November 15 with music by Peter Burke. Dancing will be from 9.30pm to 12.30am and supper will be served.
Borris-in-Ossory ICA guild monthly meeting on Wednesday night November 6 in St Canice’s Hall, presided over by Helen Kavanagh. A vote of sympathy was extended to Lily Sheeran on the death of her sister and to Helen Kavanagh on the death of her aunt. Get well wishes extended to Lily who is in hospital after a recent accident. Get well wishes were also extended to Kathleen Gorman, Balyroan (National ICA Secretary) who is also in hospital following an accident. Arrangements were made for six members to attend the Federation meeting in Castletown on Sunday November 24. A report on the ICA holiday in Portugal was given by Stella Kealy and a report on the Art/Craft Day in Castletown was given by Pat Brophy. The guest speaker was Maureen Bradley, a volunteer with the Irish Cancer Society who spoke about CHEP (Community Health Education Programme). Maureen explained that the key messages given in CHEP are that it is possible to reduce one’s risk of cancer by as much as 50% by making healthy lifestyle choices and that spotting physical changes early could save your life. The competition for the best handknitted Christmas Stocking was won by Helen Kavanagh, 2nd Pat Brophy and 3rd Margaret Shortiss and the raffle winners were Valerie St Leger and Joan Kirwan. Next meeting on Wednesday night December 4. This will be the Christmas meeting. All members asked to bring along a small gift and something for the supper. The competition will be the best six mince pies.
Members of Borris-in-Ossory ICA filled over 150 shoeboxes for the Team Hope Christmas Children’s Shoebox Appeal in St Canice’s Hall on Thursday November 7. Thanks to all the members for all their work for this very worthwhile cause. Special thanks for donations.
Fundraiser in aid of Laois Sports Partnership, Sports inclusion Disability Programme will take place on November 28, 29 & 30 in a shop unit, Main St. Fonations of any kind, new or old to help us reach our target.
