A very happy New Year to everyone from the local Gardening Group. The group are starting 2014 with a special night to make St Bridget’s Crosses. This night will be on Thursday January 30 from 7pm to 8.30pm in St Canice’s Hall. Both Rushes and Willow will be used. All ages welcome for a fun-filled night.


Santa Claus made a welcomed visit to St Joseph’s School before Christmas. 145 children of all ages were treated to a disco and gifts from Santa. Parents were treated to refreshments by the Ladies committee. Borris-in-Ossory Santa Claus Club wish to thank all who helped out on the day. Borris-in-Ossory Women’s Walking Group are holding their AGM on Wednesday January 22 in St Canice’s Hall at 8pm. New members welcome. There will be a meeting after the AGM to discuss fundraising ideas for Alopecia, their chosen charity for 2014.


Laois and Tipperary Wheelchair Basketball Clubs are hosting a Fundraising Dance in Racket Hall Country House Hotel, Roscrea on Friday February 7 from 9pm ’til late. The death took place at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise on Sunday January 12 of Robert (Bob) Stanley, Springhill, Borris-in-Ossory. His remains reposed at Guilfoyle’s Funeral Home, Castletown, Mountrath until removal on Monday evening to St Mark’s Church, Borris-in- Ossory. Burial took place on Tuesday immediately after funeral service in Kyle Cemetery, Borris-in-Ossory. The late Bob, who died after a short illness, was a respected member of the farming community and was a great neighbour and friend. He is deeply regretted by his brother George, sister-in-law Violet, nieces Hazel and Jean, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Community Alert

Letters supporting the need for a CCTV system in the community will be sent by post to clubs, organisations & businesses on Monday January 13. Borris in Ossory Community Alert would ask all to row in behind their quest for authorization for this security aid for the community.


A 7 week course of Pilates suitable for all levels will take place in St Joseph’s NS from Thursday Jan 23 starting at 7.15pm.
