Condolences to the family of the late Matthew O’Toole, The Showgrounds, Rathdowney formerly Blackrock, Dublin who died peacefully, at Portlaoise hospital on March 7. Mourned by his wife Tessie, sons Matthew, Simon, Justin, brother Patrick extended family, relatives and friends. Reposed at O’Sullivan’s Funeral Home, Rathdowney. Funeral Mass in The Church of the Holy Trinity, Rathdowney, followed by burial in Shanganagh Cemetery, Dublin.

Open Door Theatre

Laois Open Door Theatre presents “ The Hen Night Epiphany” in Abbeyleix Manor hotel on Thursday, March 12 at 8pm Tickets are €10 in aid of Laois Domestic Abuse your support would be greatly appreciated.


There was no winner in this week’s Jackpot which was €8,650. The numbers drawn were 2, 8, 9, 24. The 10 winners of €15 were Antoinette Cahill, Colleen Kavanagh, Kitty McKeague, Roisin Kavanagh, Mrs. Maher, Martin O’ Brien, Alex Stenson, John Delaney, Kay Dalton, Teresa Cahill. Next week’s Jackpot will be €8,800. Tickets can be purchased in all shops or from any local promoter.


Rathdowney Golf Club will hold its Annual fund raising Table Quiz in the Clubhouse on Friday March 20th at 8.30pm sharp. The cost is €40 per table. Lots of fabulous spot prizes to be won on the night. Bring your friends test your knowledge. This will be a fun night out. Your support as always would be greatly appreciated.


The intertown doubles snooker tournament perpetual cup final was held on March 2 in the CYMS hall. In the final was David Moore and John Fahy versus Adrian Hickey and Joe Behan. Many congratulations to David and John on winning the final. Thanks to all the players who took part in the tournament and to all committee members who helped on the night. At the moment there is both a senior and juvenile billards trournament being run if anyone would like to come and see our future young starts in action.

1916 Commemoration

Plans are underway for the commemoration next year of the 100th Anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising in Laois Laois County Council is asking the public around the county to submit ideas and plans for how the anniversary should be commemorated. Ossory Agricultural Show Society have announced their date for the Rathdowney Annual County show as Sunday July 26, 2015.

The St Vincents De Paul shop are looking for clothing donations all men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and accessories are gratefully accepted.


A great Bingo is held every Tuesday Night at 8.30 in the Rathdowney Community Centre. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Bingo is run by the Community Centre Group.

Tidy Towns website

All groups in the Laois Tidy Towns Federation are invited to submit information to the Environment Section in Laois County Council for inclusion the new dedicated Tidy Towns website, www.laoistidytowns.ie, which will go live on the March 30.
