Summer ARts

Week three of Laois County Council’s Summer Arts Programme takes place in Kiln Lane Community Centre, Mountrath, July 21-23. Finn O’Hara from Fin Pottery Tuition will give workshops over three days, in the morning from 11-1 and a second workshop in the afternoon from 2-4 for ages 7 to 12 years. NO Limits

Autism friendly children’s classes in No Limits, Ballyfin. Tuesday 5pm-6pm Dance, 7pm-8.30pm coding class (CoderDojo), Wednesday 5pm-6pm: Art. We also have a sensory room including visual, audio and tactile equipment and fiber optic lights, body cocoon and weighted blanket, €5 per hour. Special Needs children’s camps in July. Late Stephen CONNOR

Condolences to the family of the late Stephen Connor, Clonenagh, Mountrath who died on May 20 at his residence. Sadly missed by his brothers and sisters, exteneded family, relatives and friends. Removal to St Fintan’s Church Mountrath for funeral Mass. Followed by burial in Clonenagh Cemetery.

Late Mary CONROY

Condolences to the family of the late Mary Conroy (nee Kavanagh) Kilkenny & formerly of Mountrath & Portlaoise who died on May 21 peacefully, at home, after a long illness. Wife of the late Peter & mother to Sinéad, Kevin, Jimmy, Kieran, Niamh and Karol also sadly missed by brothers, sisters extended family relatives and friends. Reposed at home. Removal to St. Patrick’s Church, Kilkenny for Requiem Mass. Funeral afterwards to Foulkstown Cemetery.


The Cuisle cancer Support Centre church gate collection takes place at Ballyfin church on Sat 30 and Sunday May 31. Your continued support would be much appreciated .


The lotto was held in Mrs Kelly’s pub on May 18. Numbers 7,9,16,26. No jackpot winner now €7,000. May 25 draw in Bennett’s Bar.

Mountrath Festival

After last year’s big sucess Mountrath GAA’s Marquee Festival returns again in 2015. This year’s festival takes place in the GAA grounds from Wednesday to Sunday July 1 to 5. Wednesday kicks off with Chef Neven Maguire, on Thursday night Neily O Connor Ceili Band, Friday Pat Costello and Mike Denver, Saturday Royal Flush, Sunday Monster Bingo 2-30pm, Sunday night a fancy dress 70’s & 80’s disco with DJ Noel Brennan. Prices etc for each night will be finalised over the next week or two and will be posted on facebook, papers, posters etc from then.

Mountrath Ladies Football training in St. Fintan’s GAA Grounds from 6.30-7.30 each Monday. All ages from 6 upwards welcome.


The sale of jam continues in Costcutters Mountrath and Phelan’s Shop Castletown. We would like to thank everyone for their continuing support for this worthy cause by buying jam and donating fruit.


The outdoor gym in the local amenity park can be used by all ages. We would encourage all local clubs and groups to use this facility.
