The Irish Wildlife Trust Laois Offaly Branch with support from Coillte are delighted to team up with The Rock GAA to create nearly 1.5 acres of new woodland throughout the club’s grounds as part of National Tree Week this March. The event will take place on Sunday March 22 from 11am to 12.30pm. There are a number of benefits to planting trees in sports grounds. They provide much needed shelter for the pitches on wet and windy days, make the grounds more visually attractive and provide a home for native wildlife.

The works will be led by the Irish Wildlife Trust, as part of their kid’s club programme called the Badger Club, with the help of volunteers from The Rock GAA club. There will be a short talk to the kids about the value of trees and then everybody there will get a chance to plant some trees. Bird boxes will also be put up. Refreshments in the club house afterwards. It promises to be a fun day outdoors for the whole family so do join in.

Thanks to everyone who supported the club by buying the County Board monster draw tickets. A great success and thanks to all the sellers. Unfortunately the club had no winners on the night but the next draw is on Friday April 3. Lotto: €20 M Fitzpatrick, D Conlon, Marie, Mick & Michael.
